Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bright Idea but Poor Performance for the Trouble Don't do it. Great idea and appealed to my desire to reuse the original, well-made Maglite aluminum body. Thought "Great idea; better light in a casing that should last a lifetime. Well, the Nite Ize kit is not so much a replacement part as a charge it part. It will change the way the flashlight works and makes it far more sensitive and touchy to use. Save your money on this and put it towards a new Maglite with an LED bulb or something else with another LEB bulb. This Nite Ize bulb is a great idea but poor execution. If you do install it, you will ask yourself why you bothered. Good Luck.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from hard to install As I tried to install the led into the maglight, the tiny and too long wires broke off. As in another review written here. Just didn't seem to be designed well. I like my other led light, a Fenix, but wanted to use all the old mag lights I have. Glad I only bought one of these!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A New Life I had my mini mag for 14 years now. It was able to travel to 8 countries and experience tropical typhoons and rains. And nothing beats the availability of AA baterries worldwide. i always had to bring a lot of incendescent spare bulbs with me. there was a time the origal bulbs burned out after 10 minutes of replacing them! and the batteries would typically last for 3 hours and suddenly dies out. I didn't want to throw my mini mag away, even after new led flashlights started going out the market. then this Nite Ize 1 watt was introduced and found out REI was selling them and there was an REI store near my area. Now, my mini mag has a new life. Much brighter and with a much longer burn time. The downside is that the base of the led upgrade is quite thick, so only a few turns is needed then the whole flashlight head will fall off. Maybe they could make the base of the led upgrade a little thinner. i guess it's because there are electonics inside it. but since i knew about it, i was extra careful with the flashlight head and never experienced it dropping accidentaly. I never had problems with the installation of the upgrade. It's similar to the incsdescent bulbs with the 2 tiny pins. the only difference is the polarity. If you put it the first time and it doesn't work, make a half turn and put it back in then it will work. overall, i would recommend this to a friend. oh, and this led upgrade is shockproof too, unlike the incendescent bulbs

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of Money I was impressed with this for about a week. That is how long it lasted. The circuit control in the tailcap failed after that. I prefer the tactical, tailcap style of flashlights and give this one a plus for making the MagLight usable in this maner. After it failed, I purchased one of the LED MagLights and found that it was a good bit brighter anyways. This flashlight now has just the simple Nite Ize Tailcap Switch upgrade, and the electronics are in the MagLight itself. I use this frequently in my job as a mechanic. I still prefer my Streamlight Strion for normal day to day use, SO MUCH brighter. And a LOT more expensive... But when out backpacking I can not recharge it via solar and the extra weight is not worth carrying. A Maglight is a fair solution.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice light, difficult install Very happy with this product once bulb is installed properly. Requires patience to install. Bought a second unit for another flashlight. Once installed, works great. Much brighter than old krypton bulb (subtracted 1 star for the install)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from it is a good idea I bought one several years ago for my mini mag and really liked it. It is a bit "softer" of a light but still very usable and a great addition to the mini mag. I like Nite Ize products and they are a reputable company. I think the 1 star review may have just gotten a bad one. I"m sure Nite Ize would have replaced it in a heart beat. Currently buying one for my boss hence the delay of several years for my review

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not as advertised Bright,...yes. But it doesn't let you focus the beam as printed on the packaging. Quite disappointed. I have thought about returning it but have thrown away the packaging.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Purchased this LED a couple of years ago to carry when we're Purchased this LED a couple of years ago to carry when we're at a remote cabin or traveling cross country on the Harley. It fits easily in a pocket or tank pouch. The light output is amazing from the 1 watt LED. Can highly recommend. Store(s) were out of the 1 watt version ... will try the .5 watt LED in my 2nd mini maglite.
