go-to mittens for work and play
These are my absolute favorite mittens. Warm, but lightweight and trim; they also are fairly wind resistant. My hands are usually very cold, but these keep them warm without bulk. The gripping material is strategically placed so that does it's job without ever being in the way or compromising the lightweight maneuverability/flexibility of the fabric. They are holding up quite well, but I'm going to order a second pair because they are simply my favorite mittens ever.
Favorite everyday mittens ever
Buying my 3rd pair--lost one after 2 or 3 years of use. It was late in the season and I searched high and low to buy a replacement as these are my favorite gloves. Not too bulky but keep my hands warm. Look nice with dressier jackets for work or going out.. Love them so much I'm buying a 3rd to have just in case these beloved mittens go missing again. Only thing that would make them better is if I could use my smartphone with them.
Runs small
Love the fabric and style, but too small. There are seams inside that feel rough on the fingertips. I have large hands so wish there was an extra large, may have to go over to the men’ side
Was hoping for cozy hands on frigid mornings
Haven't tried them outside in the cold yet, but the sizing is way off so I have to say I'm disappointed. Ordered a medium and they were too big so I ordered a small and could barely get my hand in. Settled for the medium but not happy.
Mittens accidentally survived two months in the subarctic.
In the winter of 2022 I set out on an expedition in far Northern Quebec, starting in March and ending in April. I would travel with 14 others, and we would have one resupply. I had been preparing for almost a full year, which included a LOT of research on the best clothing to bring. But as with most trips, the final gear sort was very rushed. I mistook my girlfriend's flurry mitts for my own mittens, and packed them in my bag. By the time I realized my mistake I was sitting in a cozy Gaspe hostel, too far in to buy new mittens. So I dealt, and made it through with all my 10 fingers perfectly happy. I layered up with a pair of ski gloves and waterproof overmitts, but most of the insulation I got was from these mittens. Luckily temperatures were fairly balmy, rarely dropping below -20 degrees and my overmitts kept my hands well protected from the wind. I fell in the snow plenty, wore through my ski gloves, nearly lost a mitten behind my backpack, but I could always rely on these flurry mitts to keep my hands warm. I don't think I would've kept all my fingers without them. They were comfy, dried quickly, fit well enough (though I had no choice in the size), and were easily recognizable - being the lightest mittens in the tent. Even though I never intended to bring my girlfriend's flurry mitts on a subarctic expedition, I am so glad that I did.
Comfort and Practical
Great mittens. Warm. Easy to put on with the included strap on the wrist side of the cuff.
I would be devastated to lose these
I love love love these mittens. First, I am a dude who much prefers mittens rather than gloves; I have 'normal' size hands and the large fits perfectly. I live in mid state New York and these are perfect for pretty much any temperature so long as you don't mind your hands getting wet (depending on what you're doing) and it's not too windy. Lack of waterproofing and windproofing I've listed as cons, but these mittens never intended to be either. Personally, I've never really had a problem with these getting wet; they still keep my hands super warm even if they're wet and they dry out really fast (definitely overnight, if not faster). I've never really noticed the wind issue except at the top of a mountain in a snowstorm; you may feel a little breeze but your hand will still be extremely warm. My primary use for these is everyday driving, going to work, travel, brushing snow off the car. I love that these can be easily packed into anything (including jacket pockets) without taking up any noticeable amount of space. I use these hiking at 40 F to snowshoeing in the Adirondacks at -10 F (by choice) and don't get cold at all; a key point with this is that hiking and snowshoeing get your blood flowing. Regarding grip, these are by no means meant for rock climbing, but for hiking and everyday use they are totally great; the little rubber grip on the palm is completely functional but not hindering to moving your hand. My only gripe is that there is no touch screen pad. Regarding durability, I use these all the time and have had them for 2 years without any issue. I throw them in the wash and then just air dry them. Don't think about it any more. Just get the mittens.
Love these!
Best mittens I have ever had...perfect to go under my snowbaording mittens or to use around town during windy, wintery days. Unfortunately I lost them and now have to order a new pair. Just thankful that REI had them in stock!
Falling apart in less than a year
My wife purchased these as liners for her Mt. Baker shells. They keep her hands warm but anything below15 degrees she needs to add the shells to keep her hands warm. She likes the mitts and wears them daily for work outside but they don't hold up. In less than a year the silicone grip pads on the palms are coming off and they're staring to get holes in them. Normal wear and tear (not holding anything, just using them to keep your hands warm) they should not be falling apart already.
A Mitt for all seasons
I bought a pair for an LL Bean kayaking program for my 60th birthday September 30th, 2010! This week I finally have misplaced them. I wore them for everything from shoveling snow, to cold weather kayaking, ski patrol with a shell mitt in colder weather, to driving due to the non-skid grip. They are sleek-looking and warm. And I am thrilled to find them in Pinot-my old ones were dark grey. If I find my old ones, I will not return the new ones!
