My Partner Loves Them
My dad always wore these growing up, rain, snow, or shine! My partner is not a flipflop guy and I am a hardcore Teva fan, but upon doing research I thought these would be a good fit for him. He LOVES them. He was considering going for a barefoot or toe shoe, but these have such a large toe box that they suit his needs perfectly. He uses them for climbing, hiking, gardening, and daily wear. I am going to get a women's pair for myself!
Poor Quality with no Customer Service Backing
I purchased these Keen Newport Sandals after much research. Looked like a good company with a quality product. I have had them for a little over three years, purchased in Summer 2014. Situation is that I did not wear them that often. A few canoe trips (little walking), a short hiking trip in Italy, and a few weekend vacations. I went to wear them last week and found the sole material had pulled away from the leather strapping and the sandals are completely unwearable. The glue was bad, or the material compatibility did not match up. I followed the use and care guidelines that don't require any real special care. I have a pair of leather Timberland sandals that I bought 25 years ago, and I am still wearing them today. I expect that when I pay over $100 for a pair of sandals that they should last, and if they don't the company should stand behind them. Well, I have had only email interchanges with Brad, the Keen Warranty Manager, because, I am told, he won't talk to people on the phone due to "audit reasons". I also see other photos on these reviews where others have the same issue with this sandal's straps coming apart from the sole. The company is not one that I will do business with ever again. Warranty Team (KEEN Footwear) Jun 4, 15:30 PDT Keith, Thank you for your reply. Sadly, this nearly four year old pair of Newport is simply too far outside of our one year warranty coverage period to merit a replacement credit. KEEN stands by our inspector's decision on this claim. I am very sorry for the disappointment that this has caused. Most respectful wishes, Brad KEEN Warranty Manager 866.676.5336
Best sandals EVER!
Ive had a pair of keens and Im pretty sure its this model. My pair of keens have lasted EIGHT YEARS of Colorado living. Mountain hiking, camping, daily use, biking, rivers, oceans (yes I went to Mexico twice), lakes, boats, canoes. I took them to the Boundary Waters in MN and wore them MUCH more often than the mroe serious hiking boots I also brought with. I have never had an issue with them. These are, without question, the best paid of sandals I have EVER owned. Now that they are eight years old, the rear/heel strap is starting to stretch out a bit, but I just did a river trip in them and they still performed like the monsters I know they are. Mud up to you knee? Doesnt matter, these sandals arent coming off. :D Some people complain about them getting smelly, but I have NEVER, EVER smelled anything "funny". Maybe their feet stink and its rubbing off on the sandal? Lol. Anyway If I did have to say a bad thing about these sandals, Id have to say if you dont leave them in the sun to dry, they take a good 24 hours to dry out. BUY THESE SANDALS!!! Oh and the my sandals are still wet in the photo from the river I was in yesterday.
My 4th pair, and not my last
These are my fourth pair and not my last, need I say more. I live in these shoes and they never let me down. They replaced my hiking boots, replaced my fancy sneakers, and replaced my comfortable Crocs. Great on concrete, have grip on wet surfaces, smooth out the rocks, never break. I literally wear the soles down, decide they are looking a bit to scruffy, and get a new pair. The only down I have found is that they are not good in loose sand. Where a Croc or flip flop (we call them slippahs here) will shake out the sand, these will not. My feet look like they have tiger stripes from the sun; this might be a negative for some.
Not Keen on keen anymore after 3 failed pairs
Across purchasing 3 different pairs of Keen over the past 4 years I can safely say Keen is not what they were, not even close. Initially I bought the fabric version of these newports, which after 3 months and less than 20 casual uses, the heel strap ripped right out of the where it meets the sole (as with others photos here). Keen gave me credit to replace these (not without a cranky tone from the rep). So I purchased the leather pair thinking they would hold up better. Not so, the same thing happened after maybe wearing them on a few dozen casual occasions and only a few moderate hikes and river trips. Terrible quality compared to the Keens I had ~10 years ago.
glue comes off after a few months -garbage
i got them for my birthday as a present end of last year, used them only lightly for a few months and the glue came off on the flap holding the shoe together. warranty case was denied. they said that the model was made in 2012 and they do not warrant that. i called them and was treated without respect in a condescending way. keen does not stand behind their products. i recommend to buy chacos instead. i own two pairs of chacos for almost ten years and they are still holding up and they even look like new. chaco stands behind their products offering lifelong warranty.
Great shoes
I pick the Newport Keens over others because of the high rubber sole that rises around the edge of your foot. This keeps almost all dirt and debris out of your sandal. They aren't good on dry sand or scree slopes, but I do a lot of casual hiking at PA state parks with no problems at all. Plus, of course, they were designed to get wet. I pick the leather variety so I can wear them to work--leather is a bit dressier than plastic, right? The only weakness in these shoes is that the little pulls on the back strap and tongue can pull out. This happened on one of my old pairs and on this pair I just purchased. I had a shoe repair guy fix it for $5.
Great everyday shoe
I get new keens (this style) every 5-ish years. I'm just about due to get a new pair. It would be my 3rd. The insole is worn on certain parts of my foot and is separating on the back. My biggest wish for this shoe going forward for an improvement is better and or grippy-er traction. Ideally vibram soles. I seriously wear these all the time, especially when hiking in nice weather. I have slipped on rock and dusty hilly trails more times then I can count. I typically remember to change my footwear for hiking but sometimes I forget or end up hiking when I didn't intend to. The soles have always been like that since I got them. It's not a wear and tear thing. Still these are my go to shoes. Great slip on, water shoe, flat terrain. I love the toe protection. I use my feet alot when moving stuff around.
I wanted to love you.
I loved this shoe. I really did. I got the female version but they ended up not being wide enough and my pinky toe would slip out the side so I bought the mens. Still had the same issue but not as often, just a mild annoyance. However, I had these shoes for about a month (I purchased them for relief from hiking boots while backpacking Alaska) and didn't wear them everyday and where the shoe meets the heal (where it says Keen) started just unraveling. My friend that I went with had the same shoes and they did the SAME thing. So I exchanged them for the same shoe, same problem. I ended up just returning them when I got home. I felt that if I'm spending that much on shoes, they should hold up better.
All Time Favorite Shoe
This is literally my favorite shoe of all time. I choose this sandal over any of the other popular Chacos because it covers my toes... so I can wear this while bicycling. I have been wearing this shoe literally every day there isn't snow on the ground for the last two years. They are starting to wear out on the bottom, and I've had to replace the laces, but other than that these shoes are SO durable. I biked across America in these, have hiked up and down mountains, and the appalachian trail in them, and wore them every day for two semesters abroad in Guatemala. Absolutely no regret in these shoes. When these wear out, I will definitely be buying a second pair. I'm curious to know how long the next pair will last!
