not just a trash bag

I have used both sizes of the Sea to Summit trash sack on several occasions (1 - 2 week backpack/canoe trips) as food bags. I packed breakfast, lunch, and dinner items in separate bags and marked the bags with a ribbon so it was easy to figure out which bag to pull out of the duluth pack/backpack. The fold down top made the bags easy to hang at night and the contents stayed dry after two thunderstorms - even without a plastic bag liner. The bags are light weight and as the food is eaten, the bags roll down to conserve space in the pack. Of all the dry bags/stuff sacks I've purchased, these are the ones I use the most often - with the constant packing and unpacking, they've held up great. Oh, and they make great trash bags, too. We bring one with us whenever we go walking - it's become an obsession, we can't walk by trash without picking it up and packing it out.

Agree that the double mouth opening leaves a lot to be desired - doesn't hold a bag well and also doesn't seal well. Used it a couple times for car camping and it was fine - mostly served as a garbage bag holder. Used it backpacking recently and had to pack out some dog waste - maybe reduced the smell but not by much. The bag itself now smells like dog waste... Overall, I'll continue to use it because I already own it but I do wonder if a regular dry bag would work the same or better.

Odor free handy trash storage

I used this stuff sack on my first backpacking trip in five years and was pleased with its performance. Although it may require several attempts to get out all of the air, the bag compresses well and has space at the bottom to accommodate additional trash bags. When properly rolled, the bag is leak-proof, prevents the smell of trash from permeating one's nostrils and has the added benefit of probably keeping away animals. Printed on the outside of the bag is also a helpful reminder (for those who need it) to 'leave no trace'. All in all, I recommend this bag for all outdoor enthusiasts who need a convenient and rugged bag in which to store their trash.

Handy as a shirt pocket.

Once you get the hang of putting a bag in it (it really does get easy once you use it a few times), this thing is indispensable. I use it for car camping, motorcycle adventures and camper vanning. Since it clips to anything, and has strap loops, it can mount to the motorcycle outside of my panniers, or any pillar or roll bar in my vehicles. It keeps all the hot dog water from getting anywhere near your stuff, keeps your vehicle tidy, and is easy to dump out at gas station. I wouldn't bring it backpacking, but it packs small, and isn't as bulky as it looks, so anything like trailered bikepacking and rafting would be fine, and camping out of anything with an engine.

Works well.

I've had mine for several years. Works well. I agree with reviews that that say fitting a trash bag liner is a chore. It takes some practice. Also, It took me a while to find an adequate trash bag for the liner, but finally found that simplehuman code C trash bag liners fit and work the best.

Yup!

Just came back from a 4 day trip to Chicago Basin, where you have to trek out your #2s. This bag combined with odor-free diaper bags did the job of keeping out the smell (neither did it 100% by themselves, but together worked great). The flaps that are supposed to keep the plastic bag in place don't work very well and I gave it 4 stars for that.

Bugs out, trash dry, many fastening options

It's a sea to summit dry bag. If you've owned one, you know it's a quality dry bag. The added benefit being you can put a bathroom sized trash bag inside of it to keep the inside of the bag clean and your trash dry. It can be a bit difficult depending on what bags you have to get it under the lip at the top but otherwise it does exactly what it says. I would recommend not using those four corner tying trash bags with this and instead ones with the drawstring inside. The various loops on the outside of the bag are perfect for slapping this on the back of your pack and hoisting it up at night. It goes with me every trip and I would definitely get another if I were to destroy it. Not to say it is not durable, it can be thrown around quite a lot.

Great bear bag

I bought this for an overnight backpacking trip to use as a bear bag for my food. I had originally wanted to purchase the Armored Outdoor Gear Ratsack Cache Food Storage Bag, but my local REI didn't have it in stock, and I didn't have time to order it online and have it shipped before my trip. I think this worked out better than the Ratsack would have. It has a fold down, dry sack closure and you can't smell any food that is inside when it is properly closed. I also like being able to line the inside of the bag with a small trash bag to help keep it clean. It has two loops on the closure that you can put a carabineer through and hang in the trees, and the material feels sturdy enough that I'm not worried about having to treat it too delicately so that it doesn't rip. I bought the small, and after putting food for five meals plus plenty of snacks, I still had plenty of space in the bag if I had needed it. The bag weighed 4.375 oz on my home kitchen scale, compared to 6 oz listed for the Ratsack (size small). Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase.

Simplehuman class C trash bag fits!

Thanks to an earlier reviewer for pointing out that Simplehuman class C trash bags (10-12L size) fit quite well. They do. Overall: The product is an imperfect and slightly finicky design but I have found it to do the job pretty well ultimately. I use mine for car camping.

Essential kit for a clean campsite

Having used various stuff sacks and small dry bags (with less than perfect results) over the years, this purpose-built unit hits all the nails square. Keeps your food waste scent-free, which is crucial to keeping hungry critters out of your kitchen kit. Liner bag replacements can be found at most supermarkets. Rugged and well-built. One of my essentials for picnics, car-camping and backpacking.
