These things are just great. From the moment I put these bad babies on, I just knew I had to have them. They really stood out from all the other hiking boots I tried. Firstly, they were just incredibly light and you could tell that they are quality. Although I haven't put in too much work into them, I can tell that they will last me a long time. Also my feel over pronate a lot which is a huge consideration for me. I tried some Keen and Vasque boots and they just felt too wide and sorta awkward. These fit perfectly for my feet and it wraps my feel just right. Fits like a glove thats supposed to fit well. I really recommend you give these a try.
I bought these last minute before a three day hike on the Appalachian Trail. I expected blisters, hiking in brand new boots with a 40lb pack through the mountains. Day one was 20 miles from Caledonia State Park to Pine Grove Furnace. My feet were perfect except for a very minor hotspot on the inside of my left heel. These boots remained comfortable throughout the three days on the trail.and countless other hikes since. They are very light weight and remained true to being waterproof through some puddles/creeks. I am very happy with these boots and will probably stick with the brand from here on out for my all-around boot.
I've used these shoes on several hikes and camping trips now, including some that included walking through quite a bit of water and mud, and I absolutely love these shoes. They keep my feet dry and I haven't noticed my feet getting too warm, even in the Texas summer. They're more expensive than any hiking boots I've ever owned before, but they were well worth it. I simply cannot believe how lightweight and comfortable they are when hiking - much, much lighter than my previous pair of boots. I broke these in climbing Enchanted Rock and loved the grip that they provided, as well. I have nothing but good things to say about them. I would recommend them to anyone.
I felt the three c's: comfortable, confidant and cualified. I liked them before I even got to the trail. Walking from my front door to my car, I could already tell there was something nice and fluffy about these boots (read slippers). But that means nothing till they're trail-tested. That being said, these Zephyrs feel much better than my previous boots. They're light, supportive and have great traction. They handled everything from slick, mossy rocks under a waterfall to steep shelves covered with loose shale to boulder hoping across a stream. I found myself going after trails and challenges I normally might've thought twice about. Literally wore them the day after I got them and they already felt like they were broken in just for me. Strongly suggest. Make sure you get the right shoe size and wear the right socks and you'll be on cloud 9.
I purchased the all black Lowa Zephyr GTX TF (Task Force) from another store, what the difference between these and the regular GTX outside of the color is not apparent except the TF's are $15 more. Anyhow they feel and look like a beefy trail/running shoe with lots of ankle support. They are snug and somewhat narrow especially in the toe box area but not bad (I do have wide feet that have been spoiled by Keen's). I'll be using them for long approaches to climbing sites, hiking in the Sonoran desert and just general use. The laces near the top of the boots are difficult to tighten but this might work to your advantage if you have problems with laces becoming undone on their own.
I went on my Recon Patrol last week. The harsh weather from the week prior left the terrain Muddy, Wet, slippery, etc. Patrolling to our OP was about 8 clicks (8,000 meters) with 90-100 lbs rucks. we went through puddles, mud, up and down hills, draws, a tiny creek with little water flowing through it and My feet never got wet and felt incredible the whole time. Despite the fact that i was caring a lot of weight, but its all part of my job.
I tried on every pair of boots at two REI locations, including the Denver Flagship, and came home with these. These boots are light but supportive. The high ankle provides my injured ankle with secure and comfortable support. I spent a week in Canyonlands and was very impressed with the traction -- they'll stick to anything. They were great with a 35 pound load. I am not a fan of the look, and there is one spot on the lateral side of each foot where the leather, nylon and rubber molding all come together that can be painful so be sure to flex in them in the store. In the end its all about fit.
this seems to be a great boot. though these are boots with designed for a different purpose i am replacing a 12 yr. old pair of sundowners that served their time but became unbearable. no break-in time: i wore them on an extended trip when buying them the day before. water proof: i hosed and scrubbed them down while my feet were in them and wore them for hours afterwards, as well as wore them in the pouring rain. the only cons that i can find are that the wet traction on rock and other slick surfaces is severely lacking--dangerous at times when it is needed, and their durability; though it is spilt leather and very comfortable, for long-term durability they do seem to have a slipshod feel.
I bought these because they were lightweight and felt great with the first step I took in them at the store. After almost 3 years I can still walk though water without wet feet. I try to limit my pack to be 35lbs so I haven't carried a heavy load with them but I am happy with the support. This is my first pair of Lowa but most likely will not be my last.
I have had this boot for several months now and wanted to wait to review it. I have not been on any real hikes yet but use it for everyday wear. I do walk in it while wearing it and have hiked trail in the local park and around town. So far it has been great. I can't attest to the waterproofness yet but with Goretex I am confident it will do fine. It does fit nicely even though I have narrow feet. It is hard to find shoes of any kind that fit and I do have to lace these pretty tight, but they are comfortable. The tread is soft with great grip and the boot did not need much of a break in. It loosened up some, but not much. I feel confident that I will be wearing these boots for some time to come.
