Backpackers beware!
If you're purchasing these zip-offs for backpacking, be aware that the waist adjustment feature uses buttons on the *inside* of the waistbelt. These buttons would be directly under the backpack's hipbelt for most kids -- extremely uncomfortable when hiking. We had to cut off the buttons in the middle of the hike and use a piece of rope to keep his pants up. We love zip-offs, especially for traveling, but I wouldn't recommend these for backpacking unless you don't need the waist adjustment feature and can cut the buttons off.
Great pants, but just beware the sizing!
I bought several pairs of these pants for my grandson for his use on a recent camping trip. They worked great and showed no problems with durability or craftsmanship. My grandson liked the pants and had no complaints. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of 5 is that I had to return the original order, because the sizing seemed to run waaay long. I had to go a size smaller than what the chart said should have fit him. Other than that caveat, I highly recommend this item
Good deal
Bought two for my middle east trip. Very good and comfortable in such a hot weather. Waterproof. Washed it at night and already dry in the morning. The convertible design is very useful and easy to take off without taking off my hiking boots. The zip feels a bit fragile, but acceptable for this price. Waist part of the pant is too wide but have "inside-adjustment rubber band" or you can put on a belt.
Gus loves them, wears 'em every day!
Love these pants, wear them every day. Other reviewer mentioned fading of shorts but this is the case with all zip-offs. Love the color-coded (R/L) zipoff feature, never had that before with other companies. True that they ran slightly long, but that's because the L is 12/14, not just 12.
Great pants, not colorfast
These pants are great - but when I put my sons "shorts" through the wash a few times and then put them back together with the bottoms, they were two completely different colors. Not a big deal for hiking etc. but it looks pretty funny.
