Weld FINALLY Broke

Well in my last review I said that if the weld ever broke I'd write another review... and it has. I got months of constant riding out of this cage, though, and have put it through more abuse than what I'm sure most will. With the mix of commuting every day (no vehicle) and some REALLY rough rides on a hardtail through rocky trails multiple times every week, I'd say I got more than the value out of this cage. I'll be switching brands in replacement, but I do recommend this cage for about 90% of riders out there. It's a great value and I got great use out of it.

Total Junk

I purchased two of these cages (different stores/times) and both have failed at the weld point with less than a year of low-mile bike commuter use. The weld cannot stand up to real use and the natural tension of the aluminum cage design. The fact that Planet Bike's website makes a point to say that they don't cut corners has made me steer away from all their products.

Awesome cheap does the job

Awesome cheap water bottle cage nothing special nothing fancy but does the job bought another one to carry two bottles even. Only complaint is one cage had the sticker on the piece that makes contact with the bike so it was really sticky when I peeled that off maybe I should have left it on whose to say but they are awesome recommend for sure.

Gets the job done

This is a very basic inexpensive water bottle cage that gets the job done. The water bottle is easy to get in and out, it doesn't fall from the cage on technical sections of the trail and the cage was easy to install. I'm not at that level of MTB skills to see the difference between this cage and $50 carbon fiber ones, so I'd say I'm pretty happy with this product.

Fails at the weld

I have three of these on my bike, ranging from a few months to 2 years old. One weld has failed, and another is approaching failure.

Easy to install.

Very easy to install. The paint is slowly wearing off the inside of the cage even though it's less than 6 months old. Lightweight. I recommend only using only soft plastic squeezable water bottles. Metal or polycarbonate bottles will wear off more of the paint.

Functionally they are fine but scuff/sand the paint on the areas that contact your bottle otherwise they will paint your bottle

Gets The Job Done

I purchased two of these cages less than a week back. I've gone on two seperate 20 mile trail rides, ridden to and from work, and around town running errands (I like to choose more adventurous lines between sidewalks and parking lots) since their purchase. So far these cages have held up nicely with no problems. They mounted nice and easy and the bottles slide right in and out. I run 21 oz Camelback Podiums and had to slightly bend them in for just a little bit more of a squeeze since I'm riding the rocky AZ mountains. The bottles wouldn't come out, but they would sometimes end up a little crooked over the rough sections before I tightened the cage. I read the review about the welds breaking, got skeptical, but realized my bottles cost less than the next up priced cage. I'm willing to take the gamble for now while my budget's tight so I can stay properly hydrated on the trails. However - after reading the other review I wouldn't trust this cage with a $15+ water bottle if that's what you're running. My only gripes about this cage are the paper price tag sticker you have to work at to get off (but that's REI), and the flat black color. I would have rather had a gloss black but oh well. If the welds end up breaking in time I will write another review stating so. For the price you really can't go wrong with this cage. Especially if you're like me and just need something to get you by until you can get a higher end cage. It works perfectly fine, looks good, and gets the job done. 3/5 Stars because the product has met my expectations and served its purpose, but I wasn't blown away by any means.

Simple and Effective

These are probably the cheapest cages you'll find anywhere. They are cheap for a reason though but still worth it I think. Pros: - Cheap - Come in multiple colors if you're trying to coordinate with your bike color - Easy to get bottle in and out of (not too easy though) - Pretty light, but if you're buying a $5 cage you probably aren't concerned about the difference in weight. Cons: - Although they will hold your water bottle they're best for someone who is a casual rider, commuter, or only really does road riding. I wouldn't be surprised if your bottle fell out of the cage if you were mountain biking. - It is made out of cheap aluminum so it will bend relatively easily if you are prone to falling off of your bike or agressively pulling/pushing your bottle out/in the cage. Can easily be bent back to shape but if done too many times it will break. Overall: If you're a casual biker, don't fall off your bike and are fine with a cheaply made cage then this should work for you.
