Great Shorts for the Money!

I bought these short in an XL, only to find out I needed a L. Not really that big of a deal. The waist fits fine since it's elastic, but the length is a little too long. If I had bought a Large, the waist might have been a little tight. With the wrong choice of size aside, the chamois in these shorts are excellent. The padding is thicker than my Performance Century shorts, but it does not feel bulky or "diaper-ish". They might be more expensive that generic brands, but the padding alone is well worth it. It went for a typical 25 mile ride and felt like I was sitting on the couch all day.

comfortable and durable

This review is for a pair I bought last spring. The only real pair of bike shorts I've ever owned. I tried novara bike boxers first and they don't work as well as these. I'm not a spandex, bike short kind of person. I always wear a pair of shorts, like basketball shorts, over them. They're comfortable and provide a good amount of padding. They fit snug with enough stretch. I've used them about 40-50 times with 40-50 washes and they have held up well. Will use them all this summer too.

Nice shorts; slightly iffy pad fit

I commute to work daily during the summer (hot here in Texas) while my kids are out of school. When I can't commute, I try to get out 2-3 nights a week for a good hour of hard cycling. I bought these after I got a pair of Sugoi Evotech. The materials of these is much nicer and I really like the fit and feel. The pad is quite comfortable, but seems to move around a bit more than that of the Sugois. Not a deal-breaker but just something to note. I'd buy these again.

Perfection!

I've had trouble with many other shorts concerning comfort, especially on rides over 40 or 50 miles. The Pearl Izumi Attack shorts are far superior to any other short I've tried. If you've had trouble with comfort and fit in the chamois, your troubles are over with the Pearl Izumi 3D Race Chamois. I mostly train for centuries and charity rides in Colorado. Now I have trouble with catching my breath instead of "pain in the saddle!" Thank you Pearl Izumi!!

Comfortable and Durable

I've tried various brands and models of shorts in an effort to achieve relative comfort on rides in excess of 50 miles. For me at least, these fit the bill. The padding is just right for my particular posterior, the leg grippers are tight enough to hold in place but not uncomfortable, and the waistband stays up without constant tugging. They have held up very well over many miles and many washes. Easily the best short I have tried.

And I swore I'd never do it.....

When I really got into road biking about a year ago, I always said I'd never wear spandex. Well if you're new to cycling and spandex-averse, take my advice and get a pair of these shorts! I can't believe the difference when compared to regular athletic shorts, which I used to wear even on long rides. These shorts fit perfectly and the padding is great for me, no chafing. Spandex really does help with aerodynamics and holding your muscles in place. I liked them so much I bought a second pair. The only negative thing I'd say is that you can probably find shorts that breathe or wick a little better, but these do a nice enough job for me. I've ordered the Ultrasensor short '08 at REIOutlet.com for a few dollars more as I want to see if they're more breathable. Either way I am very happy with these shorts and they'll be my "go to" style from now on.

Drawstring. Don't forget the drawstring.

The product description doesn't mention that these shorts have a drawstring waistband. If you don't like drawstrings, these shorts aren't for you. Something about the shape of the chamois doesn't provide a good fit for me, which causes chafing. That's not a knock on the shorts, per se; they might fit others perfectly. I should also say other Pearl Izumi shorts are my faves (if only I could remember what they're called!).

Excellent short, worth the money

So far so good. I haven't had these shorts a long time but they feel awesome and the fabric is thick enough that they appear durable. Seams and construction are well made. But the chamois! Outstanding. Prior to buying these, I had sworn by another brand and model that I felt like was my "best short ever"--a tall order since I have 20 years of significant cycling experience. Suddenly these are my new favorites.

excellent

i've used these for commuting 17 miles round trip daily for a few months this summer. fit is right, w/ drawstrings if needed, padding is excellent, very comfortable, very aerodynamic & they look good. i will continue to wear them into the fall. i returned other manufacturer's shorts & bought a total of 4 of these! basically, these shorts, like all pearl izumi products i've worn, are simply outstanding!

The best cycling shorts for the money

I got these shorts on a fluke about 4 months ago and I have to say that they are so much better then the Canari gel shorts. They have more than adequate padding even though it does not feel like they would and fit me like a glove. I ride about 150 miles a week and these have served me well and better than shorts that i purchased for 100.00
