Not Dependable

In a nutshell...this is a very comfortable product that packs small but takes way too much effort to inflate (compared to similar products) and was not durable enough for me to depend on. The second and final one I returned (both within three trips each) was leaking from numerous tiny holes on one side and a few larger holes on the other. It looked like the fabric itself was just releasing the air (bathtub check). The more consistent hassle was the amount of unecessary effort required to inflate the pad. It seems easily worth the effort for the comfortable sleep until you realize that other, compmeting designs do not suffer from this flaw.

Another disposable air mattress

Don't get me wrong, this is a VERY comfortable sleeping pad. The most comfortable that I have ever used. Unfortunately it develops small pin holes from the less than adequate 40 denier. The seams also develop leaks. I have purchased two of these pads from BA and slept on them for 100+ nights over 3 years. I wake up several times a night to reinflate. I have only inflated them inside the tent and babied them as best I can, however I believe I am cursed when it comes to air mattresses. A different brand of sleeping pads have welded seams and 75 denier. You'll think you're sleeping on a stratus cloud. Sorry BA, you had your chance.

Amazing comfort but only lasted 1 year

Pack small and is amazingly comfortable. Great for snow camping. It takes 10-15 min to inflate but that's a minor issue. The big issue is durability. Not only is it prone to puncture, but the fabric wears out easily. When I put the pad in water to look for (a) leak, I was shocked to discover that air was sipping out over wide patches even though there was no visible sign of puncture or wear. The pad must have rubbed over something when I was drying it outside my tent. Well, don't do that with this pad. Keep it always in your tent and treat it very gently. Bottom line, I would only recommend this pad to a friend who takes very good care of his gears.

Best sleep in years

This pad is amazing. I hadn't used sleeping pads in any of my adventures. I woke up stiff and felt like an 80 year old man UNTIL I got this pad. I woke up rested and ready to tackle the trail. I purchased a BA sleeping bag as well and it fits like a glove. I am not so hung up as others on the amount of time it takes to blow up this pad. Afterall, its NOT self inflating. I did have to get used to the slippery feeling and was glad I had it in a BA sleeping bag. Overall a great pad that is lightweight and easy to deal with in the backcountry. I haven't had any leakage issue even on a weeklong trip along the AT this past fall.

Awesome Pad

Let me just start off by saying that there really is no excuse to not being able to inflate this thing yourself. Pads that auto-inflate have too much that can go wrong with them and also still require (on most) a few breaths to get to full inflation. I counted and it takes about 28-35 good breaths to inflate this. If you can't do that after a hike you probably shouldn't be hiking. This also inflates to an inch thicker than most, too. It's comfortable, warm, and packs to the size equivelant of a Nalgene bottle. If you're a camper or backpacker, you know how important it is for a good nights' sleep and this pad provides that. End of story.

Great little mat, have insulated and non

It's a pain to blow up, but after 40 or so big breaths, I'm experiencing an out of body experience and this is perfect to lay down and relax on...lol. I love how small it packs down and how light these are for the amount of thickness you get in return. There is a trick. Inflate fully, lay down and let a little air seep out until your hip almost touches the ground. If you let out too much, give it another breath of two. Thing is that people blow them up to the max and sleep on a stiff bed all night, when you really are looking for the right pressure to conform to your hip and shoulders without touching the ground. If it gets cold at night, the mattress will feel like it lost air, but this is normal so if you anticipate a cold one, leave a bit more air in it. Opposite when it goes from cold to hot. I've patched a few holes, the kit it comes with is great, but ya. I rock mine with a bed roll/picnic mat which has mylar on both sides for extra protection and warmth.

sleep all night long

I have been backpacking for over 40 years in all kinds of western rocky mountain/desert terrain. Being a side sleeper my hips would get uncomfortable at night and I would keep waking up and role over to the other side, again and again. 1-1/2 years ago I bought a "Big Agnes" sleeping bag and this wonderful amazing pad. It slips into the bottom of my bag and I never slip off of it and my hips are no longer uncomfortable. I sleep all night long just like I was at home in my own bed. Wish I had one of these 40 years ago. Buy one and get a good nights sleep so you feel refreshed in the morning to have a good day of backpacking.

Great pad for the weight!

I took this pad with me through the smokeys and it was awesome. I used it with a marmot pinnacle bag and was always warm and comfortable. It took me about 20-25 breaths to inflate and is totally worth the effort for how comfortable it is, blows thinner self-inflating pads away. The only issue is that it is slippery between the pad and sleeping bag. If you are on an incline you will slip off, so camp where it is flat and there shouldn't be an issues. I don't have places on my bag to strap to the pad, otherwise I would. It does pack down to about the size of a nalgene bottle and fits right into the stuff area in my pack with my sleeping bag. I couldn't ask for more.

Great Value and Comfortable Sleep

Most of my gear is tailored toward covering a lot of ground. I may never be a lightweight purist, because these things are so comfortable. I slept on one in Dinosaur, UT, Arches, and in the San Juans in southern CO from late May to Late June, and it was fantastic. There are lighter and/or warmer options, but for the money, I can't complain at all. I have also taken this pad out in the winter (night time lows about 20 degrees, maybe lower) and I have been fine, but I am a warm sleeper. This is my second Big Agnes Insulated Air Core. I bought a small, mummy cut one for my wife (it's the one I used for a month) that weighs nothing and is even smaller when packed up.

Love the comfort, not the quality

This is an extremely comfortable pad for side sleepers. No sore hip bones in the morning when using this pad. Unfortunately, I'm about to return my Aircore Pad for the second time. The first pad developed a leak. There were no visible holes but a dip in the bathtub showed a steady leak through the middle of the pad. The second pad developed a leak around the valve. The plastic piece of the valve inside the pad has a point on it. Over time the point wore a hole through the pad fabric. Not a very good design in my opinion. I really liked the pad other than these two issues. My son was jealous of my nice thick pad so I bought him one. Hopefully his will perform better than mine.
