Huge hand saver
I got these as a Christmas present. I work at a rock wall providing belay services to customers that want to try rock climbing, so as a result my hands tend to take quite the beating. These gloves have saved me lots of wear and tear and many blisters on my hands already. 3 hours of basically nonstop belaying, and they're showing no signs of wear (and neither were my hands!). The anatomical cut is great for comfort, and there's very little loss in dexterity. I can still easily manipulate the ropes and tie knots with little problem, and the belay hole makes storing them on a carabiner easy and convenient. They're always there when you need them. I recommend trying them on in the store to make sure you get the right size, not too tight, not too loose.
Great for cleaning and rappelling outside
They're a little difficult to belay with but you get used to them after a while. They clean up super easy and they're surprisingly breathable for outdoor use. They're a luxury to have outside and they make rappelling after cleaning a route a breeze. I don't love the hole in them for a biner (the edges feel a little frayed and I feel like with just a little bit of fabric it could have been made to hold up a little better for a little longer) but otherwise I have no issue with them. I take them with me every trip I take to an outside climb, and I keep them in my gym bag in case my hands are a little raw but my partner still needs a catch.
Good Gloves
I recently purchased my 2nd pair of these gloves. I can't recall exactly how long my first pair lasted, but probably 2-3 years. I wear/wore them primarily for class 3-4 scrambling, but had some limited rope work use as well. They kept my hands pretty safe and didn't seem to affect my dexterity much; however, I always take them off for harder class 4 or class 5 climbing. The velcro backs are nice for quick adjustments, and the mesh back keeps the hands as cool and dry as could be expected. I only recently discovered the carabiner loops (duh!) which, assuming I can verify both gloves on the carabiner, frees up a lot of pocket space during non-scrambling parts of the trail and likely lessens the chance that one of them gets lost on the walk in/out. After my first pair wore out, I didn't hestitate to buy the exact same thing, and will again.
Bulky fingertips
I use these for technical Search and Rescue work. They are comfortable but the bulky fingertips make tying knots more tricky than it needs to be. There are lumps in the wrong places, which get caught. Not as nice as my old pair (don't remember what brand they were). Would be fine for just belaying, if you're not needing to tie knots much. Dye made my hands orange the first few times I used them and sweat in them and got rained on.
Great for me ok for my wife
Mine fit well. I’ll know more when I use them but they get great reviews so I don’t need to comment there. My miniature wife’s pair of XS size fit good in the fingers but the thumb is huge. I can’t imagine a small person being comfortable with this. Her Gill sailing gloves fit on all fingers and thumb so it can be done. We’ll be doing some serious rope work this summer inland, not rock climbing, so we’ll see how much the floppy thumb interferes. Hopefully not. If you aren’t mini sized buy them. If you are think about the thumb. Petzl please fix the XS thumb!
I use these a lot.
Great all around gloves. I use these mainly for rappelling. These are also my go to gloves for search and rescue. In a wilderness situation, beware of ants if you mark the cloth with a sharpie. I had a line of ants chewing holes in the cloth one morning right where I wrote my name. With my previous pair it took two years of regular use including a few slides down a fast rope before the palm stitching gave way. Even then the gloves were still serviceable.
Sweet gloves
Bought these gloves for driving, general wear and work. They've held up nicely to moving concrete blocks, chainsaw work, etc. Unfortunately they are not waterproof, and no amount of Nikwax leather lotion seems to help in this regard. The cordex back really helps them fit snugly and allows greater dexterity than other leather gloves. If in doubt on sizing, size down.
Great gloves
I got 2 pairs of these wonderful gloves for my kids, 10 and 13 y/old. They had their first experience doing rappel and they really liked them! I also had the opportunity to use them and was more comfortable and confident with them than with my old pair from a different brand. I'm happy with my purchase.
Heavenly Hiking Gloves
I discovered these amazing gloves over 20 years ago. A hiking buddy sold me on using hiking poles for both backpacking and day hiking. I started wearing lightweight gloves with the poles, like bicycling gloves, but it didn't take long to discover their propensity for developing holes in the palm section. In searching for longer lasting hiking gloves at my local REI store, I discovered these Petzl belay gloves. I've been using them for backpacking and day hiking ever since. Sure, they develop a hole in the same place in the palm eventually, just like the old bicycle gloves did, but it typically takes at least 2 or 3 years of frequent use for it to happen.
Tough Gloves
I bought a pair of these in May to be used during geological exploration. I have Never found a pair of gloves that could take the abuse I throw at them as well as these have, while still giving me the manual dexterity I want. I wear them hiking in rough terrain and they've saved my hands from many cuts and scrapes, while handling rocks and equipment, when the weather gets cooler. Unfortunately my pair is starting to get ragged, but they are still in serviceable shape and I fully intend to buy a new pair soon.
