good value and performance
Great tire for the cost. WTB has a fine reputation for tires and these tires live up to that reputation. I've ridden with this tire for over a year on my rear wheel. No puncture flats and no problems so far. Only two small issues are that the tire appears to wear out somewhat fast down the center and I did experience a noticeable loss of braking traction in the rain, i.e., I seemed to skid very easily in the rain. That said, I still highly recommend this tire to anyone commuting on an older mountain bike who can't bear to emasculate their mtb with full on slicks and who may want to occasionally ride on gravel or dirt roads.
Great tire for any terrain
I really like this tire. It's a great fit on my urban bike (Marin Muirwoods) and an excellent alternative to the semi-slick 1.4 tires my bike came with. I just change the tubes, change the tires, and my bike is equipped to handle some pretty technical mountain bike trails. I find it's also easy to ride this tire on pavment. I just "up" the pressure and it rolls fast and smooth on the street. Obviously a tire like this isn't going to compete with a dedicated off-road tire, or a high pressure road tire. But if you want to ride BOTH places on ONE tire, buy it. Plus, it looks good and won't hurt the wallet.
I really wanted to like these...
I've put well over a thousand miles so far on a pair of these. The tread pattern is great and perfect for my riding conditions (Mainly suburban pavement, some gravel and the occasional doubletrack). However, I've experienced MANY punctures, almost always from sharp rocks of all things. Always just enough to punch through the tread and slightly nick the tube. I have three bikes in the current rotation and honestly have only experience flats on the one with these tires...
2 types of riding rolled into 1 Tire
I usually ride on paved roads and maintained trails. I was using the original knobby tires that came on my bike but decided to try these because the knobby tires rode rough on the roads. ever since i mounted these tires i have increased my average speed and have been able to ride longer due to the decreased rolling resistance. these things also have a lot of grip on pavement as well as loose gravel.
Fantastic!
Used these since April and last week for 330 miles on the GAP and C&O trails from Pittsburgh to DC. Rained heavily first three days leaving trail very wet and muddy. These tires held in the mud yet provided rolling resistance was good. Lots of small, loose rocks in sections gave no problems with sidewall issues.
Great for hard pack trails
I bought these as a solution between knobby and slick tires. The slicks I had were not good on anything other than street and the knobby's had too much roll resistance. I took these tires for a test ride and loved them. They hugged the paved segments and handled some off road surfaces with good grip. I recommend these for people with MTB or Hybrid bikes looking for a great all around tire at a reasonable cost.
Good Mixed Terrain Commuter
I had some knobbier Continentals on the bike from when I used it more for dirt and rock, but I switched to these thinking it would take a couple minutes off my pavement and hardpack commute. Didn't happen, but these are probably a better choice. If there is any dirt performance difference between the 1.95 width of these and the 2.1s I took off I don't notice it. Before the Contis I had WTB Velociraptors and liked 'em; I'm sure these will serve as well for their intended use.
Perfect match
This is setup as the rear drive wheel for a recumbent. It rains a lot out here so the tread pattern is great. There is also sand, gravel everywhere, the deep tread is perfect. I expect these tires to last a long time given the specific application. Cheap, easy to install, good tread, should last a long time. Nice.
Jack of all trades but master of none
Good all terrain tires that i threw on an old mountain bike used for riding when the weather turns wet and sloppy. Not the best is you get into mud but rolls nicely on pavement. That being said, this is not a road tire so do not expect that kind of performance and nor is it a mountain bike tire.
Great commuter and gravel tire
Smooth rolling on pavement and good traction for dirt paths. Not a hardcore technical single track tire. Very light for a wire bead tire at 599 and 631 grams for my pair on my digital scale.
