Just what I needed
I bought this product in Dec. 2010 to use specifically for a ski trip I was headed on out west in Colorado. My ulterior motive was for winter cycling. This product did wonders for my traveling via bicycle during a really harsh winter in the midwest. I don't own a car and commuted to class and around town on the bike. The mask was the best filter of cold air to my face and lungs. The venting holes are great to make it easy to breathe. This product was great everyday, and all day, while I was skiing. A few times as I was cycling and breathing heavy, my glasses tended to get a little bit fogged, but repositioning the glasses alleviated the problem. Sometimes condensation from your breath would occur and make the venting hole area a little damp but I never found that too be too problematic, as the material dries quickly once inside. Overall, wonderful product!
small but effective
I'm using this for winter riding on my motorcycle and it does the job well. The fleece neck scarf works very well to stop cold wind. If you are using it for a similarly windy activity, make SURE you get a SNUG fit in the mouth area. If the neoprene is against your face it prevents cold air from passing over your skin and you'll get great insulation, but looseness in that area will cause your mouth to get cold fast if there is a lot of wind chill. Highly recommended, so far I've used it into the mid 30's with good results.
Soft and Very Warm
Used this at Breckenridge this winter during 17 degree days with 30 mile per hour winds and it kept my face, ears and neck warm. It is very soft, drys quickly and most importantly keeps you warm. It didn't impede my breathing at all and was a valued accessory especially on the ski lift where it was very windy. You can't go wrong with this accessory whether it be skiing or for other cold weather activities.
Warm face!
Do I look like I'm about to rob a bank? Yes, but is my face warm while biking? Also yes. Usually while biking my face would become numb from cold, but now with this combo scarf I feel cozy. I can still breathe normally, there are holes for your nose and mouth so the wind does gets in, making it a little drafty but nothing unmanageable. I did have to loosen my helmet straps so I could buckle. This also covers your ears and blocks wind noises pretty well. It is a little hard to turn your head to watch for bikes/cars that could be coming up.
Game changer for winter bike commuting!
Before purchasing the Seirus combo scarf, I had been using a Buff during my winter bike commutes. It worked well, but during an exceptionally cold winter, I decided to pick up the Seirus combo scarf. I'm so glad I did! The combo scarf keeps my face noticeably warmer. It also does a better job at not fogging my glasses at stops (I still get some fogging, but it's not as problematic). The adjustable closure works well, allows me to put the combo scarf on quickly, and keeps it where I want it throughout my ride. My only regret is not buying this earlier!
Pulls on nose, slips off, does not fit goggles
Not happy with this thing. Good: it's warm and allows me to breathe. However, the front is held up by the bridge of your nose. This means it pulls on the bridge of your nose, which is annoying. If you look up, it'll pull harder. If I look up and down a few times it will start to slip off my nose.. irritating. Different people have different faces. For me, it I have a fairly big, pointy nose. It also interferes with my ski goggles - it doesn't fit underneath.
I use these for winter bike commuting
I had one of these for years that I used for skiing. When I started riding to work last fall, I was glad to see REI still carried them and I bought two more. I like these because if you put this around your neck on top of your helmet straps, you can just remove it quickly at a stop. Very little commitment if you get too warm or conditions change. I also like the breathing vents at the nose and mouth which works better than trying to breathe through fabric. Keeps the wind and rain and snow completely off of your face and ears if you wear a good fitting helmet and goggles. I have Smith Maze and I/O setup (also from REI) for both bike and ski.
great product
all the mask that cover your nose and mouth cause mist on your google or glasses this mask protect you from cold, very easy to breath and still keep your visibility clear. p.s. forgive me for my spoiled english
Why do such few people wear masks?
I could talk about this thing all day, really. It's amazing how it saved my face last winter! I've used it every week morning for my 30 minutes of running and then 15 minutes on the way to and finally from the busstop. Oh, and for teaching snowboarding on cold Quebec winter days. First off, I loved the desing of the mask. It's quite nicely designed and modern looking, and best of all, it makes you look serious about your sport, like you're gonna keep doing it no matter what conditions you're up against. And that's exactly what it allowed me to do. It's a system that simply works. The neoprene keeps the wind and melted snow from being felt at all. The fleece inside the face mask piece and on the neck scarf is super soft and cushy, plus, it fits my face really well, so it pretty much feels like a second skin, while the neck ups and balaclavas are just plain annoying. It also love the plentiful ventilation areas, which by the way don't alter the warmth. One last note: people don't look at you the wrong way when you wear a Seirus mask. They're just surprised because few people wear masks. I mean, any senseful person would likely understand that when it's below zero outside, you ain't throwing on a mask in a street to commit a withdrawal.
The best face mask out there
Works great for temperatures less than 20F, else it will be a bit warm. I really liked the outer layer it's water resistant and doesn't get wet. nose vents helps comfortable breathing. It covers the neck too, so you don't really feel the cold. Snap is easily wearable, unlike the other masks. I wish the neck portion is detachable so i can use it for frigid temeratures. The snap in the back gets loose sometimes.
