Perfect for Snow Sports
Tried on every balaclava and mask available at my local REI, and this one won out by a long shot. First impressions: Not too tight on my neck, and my lips/mouth aren't in contact with the material (a huge disadvantage to traditional balaclavas in my opinion). Primary use for me is snowboarding - I wear this under my helmet with my jacket zipped up and don't need to wear a hat or scarf. The plus side of this is that it stays put, it protects my skin from the cold and wind, and I can breathe through it. I don't need to constantly adjust a scarf, fix a hat, or pull a wet, frozen mask away from my mouth. On its own, it looks a little ridiculous, but under a helmet and goggles it looks pretty impressive.
Great for full head coverage
I picked this up when I was working outside on Keystone Mountain in Colorado. Whenever the temp dropped below 0, I would use this instead of a regular hat. I also used it on a variety of bike and backcountry adventures, since it is possible the best solution I've found for fighting wind on cold snowy days. It fits great under helmets, which is why I give it 5 stars. As a standalone piece of gear, its a little thin and frankly, makes you look like a ninja. The only con is that the mouth fleece panel gets a little wet from exhalation, but the ventilation is much better than any other solution I've found. When temps get to -10 and below, that part would freeze, making it very stiff if I pulled it down to take a sip from my camelbak.
Perfect fit and comfort!!
Love this balaclava!! It’s perfect to keep your head and face warm. The mouth and nose covering portion is a different material so it doesn’t get hot and wet after wearing for a while. The material is also sort of formed so it helps pull away from your mouth and nose so you can breathe just fine. This works perfect for my long bike rides in the cold.
Works at minus 30
I wear this on my snow machine or four wheeler (depending on the season and conditions). Most of my riding is done back and forth to our cabin or hauling material around the cabin for various projects and not purely recreational. I've worn this on the snow machine as cold as -30F. Of course you still need goggles and a very warm hat - but if you've ridden a snow machine you know that face protection is a must.
Great
I use this for work and it keeps me very comfortable and warm on the coldest days. I wear glasses and they fog-up when wearing this balaclava.
Best one I have use yet
I have this clava, but only in blaze hunter orange. I went with the orange incase I have to make a bright signal. I used this everytime its cold here in Colorado Springs. Makes great head wear for that. I also use it over my head and mouth when I am camping in the cold weather. Keeps my head warm all night! What I like most is that you can wear it just as a scarf, but if you start breathing cold air, pull it right back over your mouth.
In the dead of winter
This thing is your best friend in the dead of winter at 3 a.m. on your ride to work it won't let you down! I'm talking open air no cab northern New England winter. It really should get a 5 star rating if one wanted to be very picky the fit could be more custom but then it would be just that {it fits well}. If you NEED good winter gear grab one of these it's a no brainer
Ill-fitting around the nose
The idea of this product is good, but I found the face piece around the nose to fit a little awkwardly which rendered the vents not very effective.
Took the risk, got the reward
I thought it was a little pricey but figured I would go ahead and give it a try. So glad that I did. So far using this when bicycling has been really great. I am hoping that it is durable and lasts a few seasons or more. BONUS LEVEL: you look like some kind of futuristic ninja ready to riot when wearing it.
Its OK
I would recommend this only if you try it on first. The nose-piece keeps slipping down and will not stay in place for me. After a while the mouthpiece gets wet and then gets cold. It might be best to pull it down and let it breath from time to time.
