Extending the range of a 9 speed drivetrain
At the beginning of 2021 I picked up a wonderful vintage Litespeed road bike in Excellent condition that came with an Ultegra 9 speed drivetrain. For flat rides and hills the drivetrain was just fine, but for challenging climbs the 28 tooth smallest gear just wasn't enough (for climbs >7%). The best and most cost-effective solution was getting this SRAM cluster with its 34 tooth smallest gear and voila I'm able to climb hills! I also had to get a large cage derailleur, but this added cost along with the cluster was way cheaper than a drivetrain changeout.
SRAM PG-950 9-Speed Cassette
Still a little early to give any kind of review on this product. So far so good.
Should have done this before
I was thinking about doing the repair myself - that would have meant another $40 in tools. Instead - had the REI tech do it - three broken spokes, and a new cassette, $25 in labor - great deal! I know nothing about cassettes - seems fine, and all shiny too!
Very good cassette.
Exact replacement for my 2010 fat bike 3x9 speed. I’m glad SRAM still sells them.
For my kickr
Works well swapping my stock kickr cassette for the use of my old 27 speed mtb.
