Ladies and Gents there are clearly reviews on here about two very different products. The accessory cord sold on the shelves (in the bags) is POLYESTER. Polyester rope is much stiffer than nylon and not ideal for knots, prusiks, etc. The accessory cord sold by the foot in the back of the REI stores is NYLON. Nylon is what you want for setting up anchors, prusiks etc. The point here is know what you are buying for what purpose your LIFE depends on it! ie. Don't use Polyester cordage for anchors in climbing, autoblocks, prusiks etc or you run the risk of serious injury or death. The nylon accessory cord sold in the back by the foot is excellent at holding knots and I use the 7mm rope for setting up anchors, prusiks and my autoblock while climbing.

Good cord, not for prussik loops

Had a couple of lengths of this cord for a few years. It holds up well, but it is not a good cord for making prussik loops. It's way too stiff even with a few years of breaking in, and it is inconsistent about when it bites or when it doesn't.

Read THIS review. The packaged stuff is different.

These reviews are simply baffling - the bad reviews below are NOT FOR THIS PRODUCT! The packaged stuff is *completely* different and is indeed very stiff. This cord is supple yet tough and excellent for prussiks, purcells, autoblocks, and other climbing items. Or just tying stuff down. I've used a lot of this PMI cord and never had an issue (provided I chose the correct diameter).

It's too stiff

I tried this for my prussic's and autoblock on recommendations from someone i climb with. After a couple of wettings it became about as stiff as a wire clothes hanger. And I'm talking about the stuff on the spool, not the packaged stuff. We've all switched to another product.

Good Cord

I bought this cord for autoblocking my ATC belay. I tested it on some 8mm accessory cord and the friction knot bit without any problems. I haven't yet tried it on my 10.5mm climbing rope but if it will lock on 8mm it should do fine. Little pricy but its a good product.

Red tape rope

Buying rope should not be this involved or time consuming. I bought 100 feet of cord, cut into nine pieces. This took something like half an hour, which is crazy, but it looks like a custom price tag had to be created for each piece and then affixed to each piece, is that what took so long ? I’m not sure the price tags were even correct because they rang up wrong, or perhaps the cashier didn’t understand that it was a per foot price on the tags. Either way, he had to correct each of the nine pieces one by one instead of the whole transaction so that took another few minutes. REI, I like you guys, but you have enough problems without making the customer experience so convoluted for a simple thing like buying a rope.

Great Cord for Tree-Less Tarp Pole Anchoring

I use this 6mm accessory cord to form a tripod anchor configuration for my Kelty Noah 12 tarp when deploying it over a tree-less hammock set up. The rope works very well. It does not stretch so it holds its position even in higher wind conditions. I also used this to secure my Kelty Noah 12 tarp between trees where it withstood 15-20 mph wind gust, driving rain and sleet! During it all, this 6mm cord never sagged!

Too stiff

Purchased online by the foot. Can't tell what material it is by looking at it, but it's much stiffer than other accessory cords I've used. It's difficult to wrap when using for an autoblock, and it's difficult to coil.
