I would pass

Bought this because it's the only stick clip device REI sells and I wanted to use my dividend. After some practice at home and a day at the crag, I'm not very impressed. I have three different styles of quickdraws, and the Squid only held one open very securely. Others would jiggle closed at the slightest bump. My small, wiregate draws did OK, but those are more alpine style draws, not what people would usually be clipping on sport routes. The Squid really struggled to hold open heavier, sport-style draws. Also, trying to use the Squid to thread a rope in an already hanging quickdraw was pretty darn hard for me. Practice this a lot at home if you want to be able to do it at the crag. Not so bad I'm going to return it, but there are better devices out there for this purpose.

Works, but isn't pleasant to use

Not a huge fan. It worked for clipping, but didn't hold the quickdraw super securely. Going to return for a superclip, which was way more popular at the crag, and felt a lot easier to use.

Cool features

This stick-clip is super unique, it can do all the other normal stick clip things plus unclip a draw from a bolt! Easy to use, and fits on any painters pole you can buy at a hardware store.

Looks Funky But Gets The Job Done Better

Contrary to older Reviews, this is NOT the only clipping device REI sells. Both this Squid and the Super Clip call for practice before you arrive at the crag, unless you want to be embarrassed under that first bolt. Just DO practice and DO NOT look like a geek. This Squid is clearly superior for placing rope into a quickdraw that's already hanging, and also for taking down a quickdraw off the first bolt when you're through with a route. If you're a newbie, I'd go with the Squid; if you're experienced, you will probably gravitate to the Super Clip. I've used both and like this Squid better; ironically you have to fidddle more with the simpler Super Clip, and I get tired of having quickdraws drop out of the Super Clip, especially when you have your rope pre-loaded into the bottom carabiner.

Very Finicky

Like others have said, this is the only stickclip that REI sells. It's fine. It does it's job. But, oh boy, is it finicky. It feels fragile and I feel like I have to mess with it more than I should have to. But, it works. And it has already saved me money. Honestly, if I were to do it over again, I'd just buy a superclip from Amazon.

Neat little gizmo.

Have only used this once so far, but functions as advertised. Would recommend practicing with it before using it at the crag, it's a little tricky to get it dialed. Nice that you can put this on any size extension pole.

Disappointing product.

This product broke the first time I went to use it at the crag. One of the plastic hooks used to hang the rope when there is a draw already up on the wall snapped. Disappointing product.
