Yakima Hitch Lock
This hitch lock performs as advertised. It will prevent your Yakima bike carrier from "walking away" while you are riding your bike out on some lovely country road, or rail trail along some scenic river. My only additional comment is that it should be included with the carrier, particularly considering the selling price of the Yakima bicycle carrier!

Only Provides the Appearance of a Lock
This lock only provides the appearance that your rack is locked to your hitch. With the lock on I was able to screw out the hitch pin and the lock simply snapped off the end of the pin. The lock provided no resistance at all. This is simply a nice looking cap with a key and it is by no measure a lock.

Lost

While this appears like a great lock, the security comes from the appearance of it being locked. It is somewhat expensive compared to what you can get at [...]. The lock has a tendency to fall of if it has not latched correctly. I have lost mine at this point somewhere on the road as I thought it was latched and it was not.The Yakima rack I have uses a bolt that takes a one inch wrench to put on or off. Using the same wrench, the lock will easily break off without you knowing it.With the price, usability, and security of this lock, I would not recommend purchasing it. If you need to lock your hitch to your car, find something more secure.

100% Useless

The hitch pin for my Double Down rack screws in for some unknown reason. The first time I used this lock, I forgot it was on the hitch pin. I unscrewed the pin using the 6-inch sheet metal wrench included with the hitch, and the lock broke off of the other end with minimal resistance. The only benefit I can see to this produce is that it gives the *appearance* that your hitch is locked.

Yakima hitch lock

I've had my yakima bike rack for 8 years. The hitch pin is threaded so you have to "their" pin and lock. 3 times, and 2 times in the last 2 years the lock gummed up. I had to cut it off both times with a sawsaz. Wd40 does not work. You'll end up paying $30 for a new lock and if you are not handy a mechanic could charge $50 to $100 to cut it off. I would not buy this product unless you realize it will need to be replaced every 2-3 years with the lock cap on. The cap does pop off while driving.

Not secure lost lock

You have to make sure this lock/cover is on securely by pulling on it after you lock it. It took me several tries to lock it properly the first time, the second time i thought it was locked and when I got home the lock was gone off the hitch. I would not recommend this setup, but your options are limited.

Lost the lock

Got to thank Tom Cope for helping me find the right lock for Yakima racks, and how to replace the keyholes on the attached locks. Pretty easy to use once you have the right keys.

Security theatre

I got one of these with my Yakima Holdup hitch mount rack, and used it for every time until one day the lock core jammed and I could not insert the key. I had to get the rack off so in desperation just started unscrewing the pin. Turns out, this lock does nothing at all to secure the pin… it pops right off with almost no resistance.

Good lock for the peace of mind.

Using this lock with my Yakima Double Down 2 on an 06' 4Runner. This is a good lock for the money and peace of mind. When installing it I had to remove the safety pin from the hitch pin, install the lock, then replace the pin. It took a few attempts to sort this one out. Overall this is a must have product.

Expensive piece of junk

I had the lock from the HoldUp bike rack. I lost it, and I won’t pay 30 dollars for such a weak thing that's probably worth less than a dollar out of factory... Is this a joke?
