Worth the extra few bucks

When backpacking, or even on a day hike, my camelbak bite valve often falls in the dirt. Just this past weekend, it must have ended up in the dirt 20 times. Combined with moisture, it became muddy. The bite valve cover keeps your bite valve clean!! Well worth it.

Bummer they don’t include a product like this with the bags or bladders. But even if they did this product is bad. Don’t buy this. It’s poorly made and does not function properly. Stays closed for only a few minutes before the weak seal comes undone. Constantly having to clean my valve off since this just doesn’t work.

Works great, as expected

The product itself works great, just as you would expect. I'm just annoyed that this valve cover doesn't come when you buy a regular camelback. What a money-grab. It's like buying a device and not getting a charger. Makes me not want to buy this brand ever again.

Useless

It seemed like such a good idea, too. I was unable to get the mouthpiece back on the hydrolock, and I couldn't imagine repeating this futile exercise every time I had to remove the reservoir from my pack, because it doesn't fit through any of the tube holes on any of my packs. The cap is in the way when you're trying to get a drink, and I couldn't get enough mouthpiece into my mouth for a good drink because it was half buried inside the cover assembly. I don't think much of smearing everything with rubbing alcohol - one more thing to carry? I have used Camelbaks for many years but have smartly avoided those silly accessories. A raincover? Come on!

Nice to have the bite valve clean on a hike

I am so happy I bought this bite valve cover. Now I don't have to worry about getting dirt in my mouth when I take a drink. I know some people have said it is hard to get on over the bite valve, but I just followed the directions that came with it and it went on without a problem. I feel it was worth the few dollars in order to extend the life of the bite valve and to make it a little more sanitary to drink from. I would suggest that in between uses make sure to open up the cover; otherwise, some water will remain in there.

Awesome valve cover!

I recently retro-fitted a tiny toddler backpack into a camelbak pack for my 3 year old son, who is so excited to carry his own water on our short hikes. His bite valve was getting pretty gross from dragging in the dirt as he stopped to investigate EVERYTHING along our path. I bought this valve cover in hopes it might help. It has been amazing! It works great at keeping the dirt off the valve. My son can easily open and close it on his own, and he loves the added gadget to his pack.

Prevents dirt, mud, etc., but not leaks

I got this because I would frequently get the Big Bite Valve dirty when I put my pack down. It definitely does the trick for that. Installation wasn't super quick (the valve was stuck on the tube after a few years of usage) but pretty simple. The cover is a bit bigger than I like to fit through the holes and straps in my pack, but not a deal breaker. The biggest issue I had with it is that even a slight amount of pressure on this thing when closed would cause it to open the Big Bite Valve and leak water. This makes it pretty much useless. Maybe it will work better with the Ergo Hydrolock which I intend to try out.

I wish it came preinstalled

This is pretty much an essential component, if you don't want to be eating dirt when you take a drink. It works, and it's *way* better than what we all used to do before there were such things -- remember when we tied snack bags around the tube with a rubber band? However, the last time I got a Camelbak, the valve cover came preinstalled -- but not this time. I did locate and watch the instruction video, and even so, it wasn't easy to get on (although I did manage eventually). I'm looking forward to the day when this essential component once again comes fitted on the tube, when you buy the bag.

Simple to install, works great

I was worried this was going to be difficult to install based on past reviews. I'm really curious how he wound up getting it on, because done properly this is a snap. Hint: The very tip of the bite valve itself slides off easily. Put that in the cover slip, grip the cover slip tightly, and slide it back on. 5 second install. This product is ESSENTIAL if you go anywhere with dust or spray. The only downside is the added bulk, but of course it's going to be bigger. It covers the valve!

Doesn't fit newer Camelbacks

This bit valve cover is not a good fit for camelbak's that have the lever to close water flow to prevent leaks. You have to do a stretch to get the cover over the mouth piece. See picture attached.
