Snow Peak Trek 700 Mug

This is a great mug that i have used for 5 months now. I have seen hits about the handles getting hot when is used. I have also had this prob when using the mug. The way I have solved this prob is pulling the handles off. Go down to a hobby shop with R/c cars and find 2 1/2 ft of thick hight temp silicone gas line that will fit over the one end of the handle. With sone soap and water slide the gas line on as far as you wount cut then wash the soap off reinstall the handles done. THis gas line is good for about 200 dg. I spent about $4.00.

Great if you like burnt hands and lips

I understand why all the ultralights are attracted to this mug for backpacking because it weighs next to nothing But, it seems as though ultralight cook sets in general do not take into consideration how hot the handles become. Except for GSI, they are pretty much all like this. Am I missing something here? But, it is very light.

20% larger than 700ml

I’m not sure why snow peak advertises the spot as a 700 ml. If you fill it all the way to the brim it will hold 850 mL of water. I replaced my MSR Titan Kettle with it. I’m surprised how much I can store inside. It will fit my jetboil stand, MSR pocket rocket deluxe stove and iso canister (it does take a little bit of fiddling around but they do fit). I would have given it five stars if it weren’t for the stainless steel lid. If Snow Peak would have made the lid out of titanium, this pot would have been right at 4 ounces... Excellent piece of gear, it feels more sturdy than the Titan Kettle and has nicer handles.

Light Cup/Pot, just what I was looking f

Just bought this to reduce weight and thought this would be the perfect union with my Snow Peak Lite Max and it turned out to be so. Took the suggestion and tried the Jetboil lid; it works perfectly. I thought to myself that if the lid works would the coffee press work. I then tried the coffee press an it too worked perfectly. Now I can have my brew in the morning, have a means of boiling water quickly, and lighten my stove weight by 1/2lb. I just wonder how efficient it will be with fuel use as is with the Jetboil but in any situation something has to be given up. In a nut shell I think this is a great cup/pot.

It's Good, But the Lid Isn't.

I agree with others that the lid on the Trek 700 is a little wonky. It works, and I bring it along on my hikes, but I'm not a huge fan. The Toaks lid seems more appropriate with the liftable triangle. The lid is not Titanium and apparently weighs more, but if you can't handle carrying an extra 35 grams, you might need to hit the gym, lol. I carry this with the Snow Peak 450ml mug inside, with a Pocket Rocket Deluxe stove inside that. I like being able to cook in one pot while drinking a coffee in the mug. The 700 is not too big to use as a mug though, if you'd rather carry only one. For complaints about hot handles, try buying some silicone straws and cutting them to length and fitting them over the pot's handles. It will save you from burning yourself and the additional weight is negligible. Additionally, I find the handles feel better when I flip them, which is easy to do and is reversible if you don't like it.

Found a 3rd party lid

New Bee here, This is both my 1st Snow Peak and Titanium product. 1st I want to second all the other positive reviews. #2, Only reason I gave a 4 was Is the aforementioned LID issue. Today I acquired a Stanley adventure French press also, on a whim I tried crossing the , slightly stunned the Stanley adventure lid fit. Very snuggly

Convenience (not weight) is your friend

Forget about weight savings -- the difference between this pot in steel versus titanium isn't worth mentioning as a practical advantage. It's the shape of this pot that's the winner. If you have a Gigapower stove (and really, if you camp in the summer, why don't you have one?), this is the perfect solution for keeping your stove and fuel canister neatly protected in your pack. If you go on solo trips and all you do is boil water for your oatmeal, your coffee and tea, and your evening dried meal, you don't need a cookset -- you just need this pot. That's all. Dig it.

Almost Perfect

I’ve been using the SP700 for over ten years now. Still probably my favorite solo pot/cup. I love how well it nests with other items in my kit. It will, of course, fit a Nalgene or 40oz Klean Kanteen, but can also hold a GSI Infinity mug or even an 8oz canister with my MSR Pocket Rocket Deluxe. Measurements molded into the sides are a win, especially considering how there are more expensive options in the same size range that don’t have them at all. It’s not so big that it can’t be used as a cup, but also a decent capacity so that you won’t have to heat up multiple cups of water to make a meal and coffee. Of course, the lid sucks, but at least it has one.

Simple and dependable

I've had mine for about 6 years now, and love it so much that I even use it on my desktop at home, along with a small Gigapower stove, for making coffee and tea during the day, Perfect for a boiling drinking water, making a cup of Ramen, coffee, tea, pasta, whatever. I've used mine over fire, coals, and most often the Gigapower stove, which I bought at the same time. (It's been equally dependable and still works like new.) And of course, the size means that you can stuff in your pack side pocket, with your standard size (liter) water bottle nested in it.

Great for the solo backpacker

Awesome pot/mug. It was all I used for cooking/eating during my 2012 AT thru-hike. Good size and capacity. Very lightweight, so great for backpacking. Kinda expensive, but all backpacking gear is expensive. I accidentally dropped mine off a mountain, and watched in horror as it went rolling and banging down into the abyss. So I bought a new one. It's a good pot. If you're a solo backpacker don't bother with those cute pots-and-pans sets, just get one of these. Also, Snowpeak makes good titanium sporks. Get one of those, too.
