I knew these were worth the money when I tried them on. They are so comfortable (no break in needed). And they are cute yet rugged looking. It was between these and the IOWA brand boots but these felt more sturdy and durable. I thought they were also very light weight. I just upgraded from some Columbia brand boots and those were extremely uncomfortable and heavy. The loop holder on the back of these is a little larger to so you can easily clip them to a backpack. I tried them on with thick hiking socks and they fit perfectly in my normal shoe size, and they have great traction on the trail.
So far these boots have been the best I've ever owned. Absolutely no break-in period. They were comfortable from the very beginning. Bought the same size as I do when I purchase running shoes (a size bigger than sandals/heels). Took them on a very wet Labor Day backpacking trip. They stayed completely dry through numerous stream crossings and pouring rain. Definitely made my boyfriend really jealous, which is a plus. :) Haven't gotten to do any cold-weather hiking yet, but I should be able to do that soon. If they perform as well as they do in the water, then I have no doubt they will keep my toes nice and cozy.
I bought these boots three weeks before I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa. I wore them out to the bars one night to break them in. They are not attractive but they are ridiculously comfortable. I wore them one day when it snowed in New York just for fun. Then I climbed Kili and the boots were worth every penny! I HIGHLY recommend them for amateur climbers/hikers. I've run three marathons and if these weren't so heavy, I might try and run one in these because they are so comfortable after being on your feet for hours.
I have worn Asolo boots for years. It is a good boot for women. I have hiked many miles free of pain and blisters. Asolo boots are structured to limit distress to your knees. Tried a Salomon boot last year which caused a lot of knee distress sending me to an orthopedic doctor and months of physical therapy. Returned those boots and went back to using my old Asolo boots. This boot is a bit lighter than the boot I have been using. I recommend switching out the insole to a Superfeet insole to complete the comfort this boot provides.
I just bought these guys last week super excited because my boyfriend loves his Asolos and they got great reviews. Unfortunately during my first test day-hike with them I noticed the right shoe was actually pushing my right foot to pronate excessively. I noticed this in the first two minutes I wore them. After wearing them for another fifteen minutes, my right knee and leg were in pain. This happened two days ago and my knee is still acting up.The left shoe felt great though! There must have been a manufacturing problem with the right shoe which honestly makes me wary of this brand[...]I hope these work. Fingers crossed!(I also didn't like the lacing)
These are by far the best boots I've purchased. My husband bought a pair on an REI employee's recommendation and he loved them so much I had to buy a pair. They fit very comfortably and broke in very quickly. I have a VERY small foot and found the smallest size they made (ladies 6) was "just right" for me. I would recommend these to anyone who does a lot of hiking and is actively involved in Boy Scouts! Just a small draw-back and I hate to blame this on the boots -- I wore them outdoors when it rained darn near eight straight hours. The waterproofing pretty much gave out. I had to re-waterproof the boots. But they are just as good as new now.
I absolutely loved these boots from the minute I bought them starting because they looked nice. Asolo used to make them in cute colors that were unique and looked nice enough to wear out and about in town. They have been comfortable, reliable boots for 5 years, but the waterproofing is no more. Last year sometime my feet got wet for the first time. I don't know if that is normal wear and tear (and they've taken a lot of abuse and I was really happy with them until a year ago), or if it is a problem with the boots. I love the fit and look so even though they wore out I am planning to buy another pair of Asolos. Maybe that's crazy, but I love them. I am going to get the next step up in the hopes that the waterproofing won't quit on me. Overall a great book.
My husband and I bought these Asolo boots Nov 2010 and both worked a bit on weekends to break them in before our longer summer hikes. He had trouble with the tongue initially and mine were just tight on one foot. But after 3-4 months of weekly 1-3 mile hikes they became very comfortable. Last winter, to our dismay, both Of us noticed cracking of the rubber toe, but they were still quite waterproof, so we didn't take them back. This summer, my toe started peeling off and a friend reminded us that REI has a very generous guarantee policy. So we gathered our boots and took them back, exchanging them for another type of boot. We highly suggest Asolo investigate their rubber as we have many other boots with rubber that don't crack and peel. Thanks REI and we will to buy our boots with you!
After slipping these boots on my feet I knew instantly that all my other Hiking Boots would fall by the wayside. Went on a hike and no slipping, blisters, rubbing or pressure points. I am very difficult to fit so I was chuffed to bits to have found such a great fit. My biggest issue with other boots was heel slippage and feet sliding down so my toes hit the end of the boots. None of this has happened with these boots. I finally succumbed to the Superfeet Insoles (Pink/Berry) and wow what a difference, now I feel like these were molded to my feet professionally which would cost $1000 more. You can't go wrong with these boots. Probably not for wide feet though.
I wore these everyday on an 8 day trip to Southern Utah, with minimal break-in before the trip. They took me through desert hikes, rock scrambling, five inch deep snow, and a hike up Angel's Landing on snow and ice. They kept my feet warm when needed and weren't hot when hiking in the sand. After five hours on ice and snow my toes got a smidge chilled, but just barely, and I usually get cold feet very easily. They had great traction on the slick rock scramblings in the desert and I found them to be great boots. My only complaint would be that next time I will try to find a different insole for them as there is little cushioning. After a nine hour day of climbing on rocks, my feet did feel a little sore and they felt hard on the soles of my feet. Still, I would definitely recommend them.
