Best fishing hat I've ever had
I love this hat, I own 3 of them, the oldest since about 2006. I thought initially would be too warm for the summer, but they are great even then. Especially great in winter or wind. Even my oldest hat still has original shape after all the travelling and crushing. have not had to re-shape any of them.
Better Than Ball Cap’s
Just got this hat at my local REI store... this hat was a backorder which took awhile to get. When it finally came I have to say this hat is amazing in all ways! It’s comfortable, stylish, the olive green color is awesome for most of my hats of this style are brown or black. This hat is very functional and the price point with REI membership is good. I only had this hat a few days and worn it nonstop , I get compliments on the looks and color of the hat. This hat is also quality except not much for the hat band which I may change out. The band is not leather but more of a textured plastic of some sort. Great hat thanks REI.
Great hat - when you add a chin strap
It's a great hat for sun or rain (except in hot weather) but can blow off in a sharp wind. So I used a nice shoe lace to create a chin strap. There is a good interior hand band, so on each side of the hat, use a tiny knfie to poke two holes in it about an inch or less a part to put the shoe lace through, creating a secure loop with a bowline knot. One end of the shoe lace goes forms this loop on one side of the hat, the other end on the other side of the hat, pulling the ends through so that the middle section fits the chin with about 3 inches to spare. Use a drawstring toggle to cinch it up with a small knot at the end to keep the toggle from coming off.
Great All Season Hat
My brother bought me this hat in Colorado. It is great for summer and winter. It fits well, keeps the snow and rain off my head. Only thing I would refrain from doing is folding it. It can and does crease.
Old Faithful
Love this hat! Purchased mine in the early 90s, before my daughter was born so it is over 25 years old and still going and in good shape. While it is no longer close to the original color, I think that is what character is all about. This hat has been all over the Pacific coast, Alaska, and a few continents. It has has survived being stuffed into diaper bags, backpacks, suitcases and three children. I purchased mine a little snug but not snug against the hat band. It eventually molded to my head. I should probably pick up a new one but doing so feels like it would be abandoning an old friend.
Good hat with some flaws
I bought this to replace a worn-out hat of similar type. It has some of the virtues of my old hat. It's warm enough for three season use. It's thick enough to serve as a potholder, and can also hold water long enough for an instant shower, or to put out a campfire. I've had this hat for some time - at least 5 years. But it has some flaws. It's a big hat (I'm not talking about head size), so it's quiet a bit heavier than my old hat, and takes more space when crushed into pack. It's a heavier hat than my old one, partly because it's big, and partly because of the thicker felt. That's noticeable on a long day of activity. It's crushable, but lost its shape long before my old one did The leather band doesn't last long.
Perfect hat for everything except kayaking.
This is my third one. My dog got a hold of my first one. The second lasted about 5 years and started to look to worn and the headband started to fray so I'm on to another one. I wear it virtually every day.
A great hat for any adventure
I've had this hat for 2 years now. Scorching sun or pouring rain it does the job.
great hat
I wear this hat essentially every day, to and from work, walking, etc. It keeps me warm except in high wind (when the lack of earflaps is noticeable) and the brim shades my eyes well. It is also the only piece of apparel I own which actually gets compliments. "Great hat" comes up a lot. I'm a college professor, and I get compliments from students and colleagues -- a wide age range. Everyone loves this hat. The bottom left brim has turned green (probably that's hit by sun when the hat is hanging on the porch) but not very noticeable. Highly recommended.
Great Hat
Wonderful hat. I have been wearing this style of hat since I got one at an REI in Bellingham, WA in 2004. Since then I've used it as a waterbowl for my dog, a waterbowl for my horse, as a towel, and as a damp piece of cloth to swat at a fire that got beyond the ring. And the hat still looks good to me. The color fades slightly with years, which doesn't bother me. Also, hat tends to expand slightly when soaking wet -- after, e.g., using it as a waterbowl -- so that a stiff wind can blow it off your head. But these are minor complaints about a great piece of headgear.
