Peanut Butter? Can I have anutter?
Greenfritos

I got a deal on the peanut butter flavor of the GU gels, skeptical at first. The other flavors I have tried were good, but peanut butter? Well, a couple of packets during a long ride convinced me that is the flavor for me!! I love the fact I get the peanut butter flavor without the stick to the roof of your mouth stickiness. (Plus, it's tough to carry a jar of peanut butter in your jersey pocket). I have also tried Justin's nut butter packs, but this stuff goes down much easier. I am going to try mixing with another flavor in the future, try to get that PB&J taste maybe?? The boost of energy is gradual, but lasts for awhile. Great for rides. The other flavors I've tried are great too, but nothing to bring back that feeling as a kid eating a PB and banana sandwich so much as the peanut butter GU. For those who have a hard time swallowing these, don't just gulp them down. Let the GU sit in your mouth for a little bit, your saliva will soften it up. If you don't have saliva, your issue isn't energy, you need some liquids. Plus, drinking a little bit after a GU shot helps. I've never had that "sit in the bottom of your stomach" feel with the GU gels.

GU cola review

I got this on a whim from the half off basket near checkout. I like cola so I figured why not. Well I figured it out ... I did not like the flavor during a run. I guess cola really needs the effervescence and acidity. This just tasted weird. 3 stars because it still worked from an energy standpoint. Just not something I’ll rebuy and just feels like the flavor missed the mark. Die hard cola people ... maybe give it a try. Otherwise I’d say skip.

Tried and true, we love GU!

GU has been key in my marathon training. During this training block, I've tried nearly every flavor. My favorites that I usually take on all my long runs are: Orange Vanilla (roctane), Vanilla (caffeine), and Birthday Cake (caffeine-free). I like that they all taste similar, but there is enough nuance between them that I have something to look forward to every 30 mins ;) All the decadent / coffee flavored gus are pretty solid: salted caramel, caramel macchiato, espresso, chocolate outrage – can't go wrong. I also love Tri Berry, which surprisingly does NOT taste like cough syrup. Berry flavors usually taste like medicine. If you're looking for some cough syrup though, try the Blueberry Pomegranate Roctane flavor. Yuck. Cola is just alright, and I'm a diet coke girly. Mandarin Orange slaps. Raspberry Lemonade is yummy, but it gives me heartburn. Strawberry Banana is nasty. I just got the Pumpkin Spice flavor and I am excited to try it out!

Need a pick-me-up?

After a long day of hiking McKissick Canyon and climbing around on the rocks the GU tri-berry definitely helped give me some much needed energy. It absolutely made my boots feel a little lighter when I was trudging back to the truck. The caffeine and electrolytes help bring you back online. Not a big fan of the tri-berry flavor but it's personal preference.

Great for long bike rides

Great for fueling long bike rides; while riding, I will have either one of these gels (regular or Roctane) or some form of energy bar per hour, to avoid bonking. That said, some flavors are better than others; as such, I would advise trying a flavor before buying in bulk for this reason. (Personal recommendations: French Toast, Toasted Marshmallow. Most anything with "chocolate" or "caramel" in the name will work on flavor as well. Would not recommend the Cola, though, and the fruit flavors in general don't work so well on taste, either; likely the contrast between texture and flavor creating some dissonance in the overall product.)

Tasty and effective

A friend handed me a Gu gel during a trail run. Not only did it taste really good (Chocolate Outrage), it also gave me a much needed energy boost. I know they try to save packaging material and therefore they don't have the don't-loose-the-little-tab like Clif gels. But on runs, that little tab can be a little awkward. When riding my bike, I tape the tab to my bike's top tube so I can single-handedly open the gel packet and no accidental littering with that little tab. Be sure to wash the gel down with some water though or it will leave you very thirsty.

Dessert-type flavors are better

Fueling: I can't speak to how well this actually fuels me. I'm sure it's helping, I just can't quantify how much it's doing. Form factor: These are very small and convenient to open and consume while riding, even for me, a newb. These were my first gels and it was such a weird texture experience. Flavor: I originally purchased the strawberry kiwi, raspberry lemonade, and vanilla bean. I immediately disliked the fruit-based flavors because they do not mesh with the texture at ALL. The consistency is something you'd expect more for a soft-set custard (think creme brulee, not the frozen ice-cream type). Vanilla bean was good. I've since had the birthday cake and salted caramel, and I'd recommend those too. Any type of dessert flavor works with this texture.

50 miles of GU

I recently ran a 50-mile trail race using GU gels and NUUN tablets. The GU worked perfectly. I especially appreciated the new flavor, salted caramel. It was a great flavor that I enjoyed at the end of each 10-mile segment.

GU is GREAT!

I love GU! I depend on it to keep me from bonking on my long runs. It's easy to ingest while running, and it's also very convenient! Small size easily fits in a pocket. Use as advised, it will keep your energy up for hours - perfect for marathon/half marathon training - or any endurance activity! Must use with water - but you wouldn't think about endurance activity without water anyway, so that shouldn't be considered a problem. I love the Chocolate Outrage the best- not only is it palatable, but it's actually quite delicious; the taste and consistency is like chocolate fudge. Yum!

Life-savers!

These energy gels have proven themselves to be real life-savers... literally. I'm diabetic and don't always realize that my energy is flagging. Fortunately, I keep these on hand - in my pocket and in my backpack - for when I feel that drop in blood sugar. They work faster than eating a piece of candy and the caffeine kick in some of the flavors helps to curb any headache I may have gotten from allowing my sugar to fall. I also use them when hiking in general, to keep up my stamina between meals. They're easy, fact-acting and highly portable, making them perfect for traveling.

Expiration date

I am a regular consumer of this product when I am climbing in the mountains. It is a great product, a bit to thick to swallow when you are at altitude and also to sweet but it works well for the intended purpose. My only issue is the expiration date, it is to difficult to read, so you cannot easily rotate your inventory and you end up having to throw a way product. I wish that this date was easy to read at a glance.
