A smart pair of Solomon trainers. I have owned 8 - 9 pairs of GTX trainers but these trainers do not fit as well as the others have. They seem to be a shallower fit on the feet meaning they rub my heal. Having worrn nothing but Solomon for the last 14 year these are not up to their usual fit. To get them the hug your feet you have to pull so hard on the quick laces I am scared I will break them.
month in, standing up on par with non leather gortex, as waterproof so far. hoping the leather allows more flex on the sides, about 4 inches from the toe where every boot/sneaker fails, Soloman usually doesn't give out till 1.5 years , I run all footwear through the paces, pun intended. 8 months for footwear is usually the standard for good footwear for me including work boots, I wear mine horseback riding, hunting, fishing, hiking, sports, farming. blood stains fade fast. the gortex line usually lasts 1.5 to 2 years before fatigue finally beats the quality. have 7 people converted so far and are mad whenever there in regular shoes cause they don't compare, unless you're dancing then they're far to grippy.
The quicklace system / wire is very annoying. Once you pull them tight they are way too long and hit the ground when you walk along. You can't tuck them under the wire (too tight) so you have to tuck them in the shoe or have them flapping about.
The new form of one long cord lace are poorly designed. It's way too long and flaps about hitting the floor unless you tuck it in by your foot which is very uncomfortable. Would not recommend.
Now moving onto my 3rd pair of this particular style, a great shoe for my particular purpose and would be perfect save for the “manufacturing defect” suffered by both previous pairs after circa 6 months. How extremely disappointing that the failure to maintain the “waterproofness” lets this shoe down. The upside is how effective and efficient the warranty team are. 3rd pair ordered, but I will be applying the “3 strikes and you’re out” philosophy
I was on a bit of a budget and bought these shoes on sale. I had 2 key features on my wish list which were no traditional shoe laces and GORE TEX upper to prevent dirt and sand getting into the shoe in the dry conditions. This shoe fit the bill perfectly. Shoes were comfortable from the first wear ans didn't really require and breaking in. I did feel the sole wasn't as plush as my previous pair.

These are might and comfortable as expected, but are a little too large in the toe area and make a flip-flop noise when walking. This could be due to my foot shape, but did not happen with other Salomon shoes I've owned. As with other Salomon shoes, I always go half a size up as they tend to be on the small side otherwise.
Been wearing the X Ultra range for years and always loved them, however this new style seems to come a bit small and my usual 12.5 rubs my toe / heel a bit. Shame as I love the color and design. Don’t want to go up another size, I have narrow feet so have to pull the laces very tight to keep my foot stable.
These last me around 900 miles of hiking. For me that's 2 months. The narrow lip around my ankles let less hitch hikers in the shoe. Also I have not had issues with soggy sock that can cut hikes short. The quick lace is awesome no burs for the laces and easier for getting them on and off.
