I’ve been looking around for months for a running jacket that actually is as windproof and warm as it claims to be. This is the closest I’ve found. I wore it out today for an hour-long run in Boston, where it was brutally cold and windy (3 degrees F with wind chill). I wore a merino wool base layer and a thermal layer. Next time I’ll skip the thermal layer because I was a bit too warm with this jacket. It really does an excellent job at blocking the wind. My only complaint is the hood - I pulled it over my smartwool merino wool headband and my ears were still freezing, since there’s oddly no cord or other way to tighten the hood around my face. So the wind will easily cut right into the small gaps around your face. The last few miles of my run, when the wind really picked up, was an absolutely miserable experience for my ears. All to say - if you’re wearing this in really cold/windy weather like I am, don’t rely on the hood to do much. (For those wondering about sizing: I’m 5’6”, 138 lbs, and medium fit well - spacious enough to fit a few layers underneath. If you really want a snug fit and don’t plan to layer at all, maybe go for a smaller size.)
I’ve been looking for a jacket for travel, that’s lightweight and packable and this one is perfect. I have not worn it yet, but I know I’ll love it. It seems perfect for long walks, hiking or skiing. Very versatile.
