WOW, these boots might have changed my life! I am an avid hunter and outdoorswoman, who spends a lot of time hiking through thick brush and water covered foliage. These boots are so lightweight that you never get the fatigue that comes with high stepping all day through the field. They also keep your feet dry even when you submerge them in water (or in my case, muck). After one weekend in the Michigan grouse woods, I am convinced these boots will be my go to moving forward. Give them a try, you won’t go back!!
My Loyak's have been my daily wander and walk shoe for years (and multiple countries) and they have held up to everything. So now that I was in the market for an upgrade to my old hiking boots I was more than stoked to see Astral's new Pisgah 1.5. I wanted to keep with the same avenue of a quick-drying, lightweight shoe style but also be able to wear my new hiking boots for multiple occasions, like around town or when sightseeing, not just in the mountains or on trail. Kind of like a one shoe for it all type thing, so I don't have to pack a bunch of stuff when traveling. And guess what, I love them. Especially the fact that the sizing is exactly the same as my Loyak's. I am a Men's 11 in both and it is so relieving to be able to know what size shoe you are with a brand and that size is consistent across their styles. Im a huge minimal-drop fan and the wide toe box is magic. Not that my feet are wide by any means, it's just nice to have space for my foot to spread out and move with my steps on the terrain. The grip has been rad so far, similar to a trail running shoe, which these hiking boot feel like. They are lightweight and allow my foot to move, which is way better than how I felt clomping around in my old hiking boots. But also my feet did not get sore after a long day hiking with my heavy pack. All around kudos Astral you did it again, great job!
I’ve only taken these boots on a few hikes so far, and they’re already some of my favorite shoes, let alone boots. Pros: - The biggest thing that stood out to me as soon as I started wearing them is how light these boots feel. In comparison to a pair of leather waterproof hiking boots that I’m coming from, they feel so much lighter and less constricting on my feet. - The wider toe box gives space for your toes without feeling like you’re floating around in the boots, and losing stability. - The first time I stepped into water, I was concerned since the material of the boot looked like it was getting wet, but the inside of the boots never got wet, so however it works, it does the job. - Between walking on logs, wet rocks, and loose gravel, I never questioned the grip. Time will tell how they wear, but so far I’ve felt confident. - I’m new to zero-drop, so I don’t know a ton about it yet, but I really like the feel of the soles, and that was something I was excited about when getting these boots. - For men’s sizes, they run true to size as I’d expect. I wear a 10.5 and got a 10.5 that fits great. Considerations - not really cons - As waterproof boots, I did find that my feet still got hot, but this happens to me in basically all waterproof shoes. So it’s not really something that can be helped. - The ankle support is on the loose side, & mid-height. For me, this makes it more comfortable to wear for longer periods of time, and for walking distances. For steep mountain climbing with uneven rocks, I would probably switch back to a tighter-fitting high boot, though. So it really just depends on what kind of hiking you plan on doing. TL;DR - I really like them, and I’ve found myself even wearing them to run errands around town over my everyday shoes since I find them so comfortable.
I picked up these boots to do some fall hiking in the Tahoe area in the snow and shoulder season slop. They performed well, breathe well and kept my feet dry no matter if it was wet snow or crossing a creek. I loved these boots so much that I took them with me to Japan for a week of business and then a hike on the famed Kumano Kodo, and they were the perfect companion. Whether getting in 24K steps a day in Tokyo or pushing har miles on trail they were comfortable, and stable every step of the way
I've been hiking in Astral boots for over a year now, and just tried the Pisgah 1.5s. HUGE fan over here! They had zero break-in time and are sturdy enough for big days in the mountains yet still light and breathable. I really try to purchase products that are going to last me awhile, and are made sustainably so I love the recycled material. Plus, they're completely vegan and animal product free! I hike 3-5x per week, usually between 5-10 miles and 1-2000 elevation gain each day and so far these have been a really solid go-to boot.
I put the Astral Pisgah 1.5 Boot to the test on a multi day trip to Mt. Rainier during the first snowfall. At one point I accidentally stepped into a creek, completely submerging the boot, and to my surprise the inside stayed dry. I just kept hiking with no issues. It was also my first time wearing a boot with a wider toe box and it felt different at first but quickly became more comfortable. Tough, reliable, and surprisingly dry, this boot has earned a spot on every future trip.
This is my 6th pair of Pisgah boots. The Pisgah is by far my favorite shoe and they are some of the best shoes I’ve found in the world. They’re warm enough in the winter and cool enough in the summer. They’re super lightweight and easy to travel. I’ve worn them from Kazakhstan to the Sahara desert to South Africa and lots of places in between. My only complaint is the new colors - I loved the gray ones and when I contacted the company, they told me they aren’t planning to make them again. The brown ones are ok, but I’d prefer if the sole was black instead of gum-colored. They’re wonderful boots; please bring back the gray option.
Very comfortable! They would certainly be great for some due to being both breathable and waterproof/resistant, which is hard to come by. However, for my purposes, because they are less good at both breathability and at waterproofness than a more waterproof shoe or a more breathable shoe, I ended up choosing the Astral Halestorms for significantly better breathability despite their waterproofness going up to a shallower depth than the Pisgahs can go, and then chose Will's Vegan Store's waterproof hiking boots for a significantly deeper waterproofness depth than the Pisgahs and nearly identical breathability.
Generally these are a great boot- super durable, waterproof, lightweight, and breathable. They feel much more like a jungle boot in their stiffness sole and little ground feel. Despite claiming a wide toe box, they're far from wide. Something about them feels a little stiff/unrefined for a boot at this price, but maybe 2.0 will fix that. There's nothing else I'm aware of that's actually this durable/waterproof/light.
These shoes are fantastic, very comfortable. I was looking for a lightweight hiking shoe with a mesh/canvas upper. These are a little stiff initially, but I think that’s just due to the Gortex, but once worn twice they soften up nicely. Perfect hiking boot! On size, I had to go up a half size from my Astral shoes, which are also awesome!
