Great tough watch!
I have 2 GARMIN watches, an Instinct 3 and Forerunner 265. Love the case and screen on the AMOLED model of the Instinct 3. With that being said the quality of the screen (which is great) is only missing 1 feature, touchscreen like the Forerunner. Other than that I love everything about the watch. The led light is ultra cool. Garmin makes a really good watch and I love that there are a lot of quick fit band options out there to switch it up. I can be rough on watches and the Instinct 3 fits the bill for being tough and still having smartwatch features.
Great Addition to the Garmin Lineup
This is my 4th Garmin watch. I was using the Forerunner 265 exclusively prior to getting the Instinct 3. For the most part, features are the same including the ability to change the watch face which another reviewer wrote was not possible. It is possible - you just have to use (like all Garmin watches) a separate app called Garmin ConnectIQ. I am hard on watches and the best feature so far is the face is slightly recessed and less likely to get scratched. I have the 50mm version and the screen is bright and the standard face has a great amount of information. The main differences between the Instinct 3 and Forerunner 265 are that the Forerunner is $50 less and has a touch screen (which I like a lot and miss on the Instinct). The Instinct is definitly tougher looking and has a flashlight. Neither one has music on board but I like to carry my phone when I run anyway. Battery life is significantly better on Garmin watches than Apple and I wear mine at night because I like the sleep score function. I find it to be pretty accurate. GPS functions and fitness features for running, walking, cycling, pickleball (there are tons) are all great - too much to write about in this space. I highly recommend Garmin products for this reason alone. I am a committed customer. The Instinct 3 is a great addition to the lineup and I will be keeping both for different looks/uses.
Cool watch!
I got tired of having to charge my apple watch every day so I saw a Garmin watch and saw some pretty good reviews, a bit spendy but you get what you pay for so chose the Instinct 3 Amoled, I liked the smaller sized one, oh my gosh what a sweet watch! I charge it every 16 days or so, it can do more than I need but that's ok. Takes a little to figure it all out but it is getting easier. Watch face is so clear and easy to read even in direct sunlight and very customizable. It even has a flashlight which I thought I would never use but seriously use it daily, super handy. I do recommend this watch
Great all around watch!
I bought this watch two weeks ago and love the battery life. I am an iPhone user and the iwatch just wasn’t working for me. Work consists of hiking, climbing, topography change, terrain, and remote locations. This watch does not need to be charged often and I definitely like having all the daily info in the watch face (temp, time, pulse, battery life, sunrise/sunset, date). I wish it had a had a different icon color when receiving outlooks emails, but that is more of a preference. Still exploring all its features but so far I am happy with the purchase.
Initial Impression
Honestly I was surprised and skeptical about Garmin adding an AMOLED screen to the instinct. My first-gen instinct had breathed its last after 5 years of hard use. So, I started looking for a replacement. I decided to get the new instinct 3 but I found myself torn between the AMOLED and solar models. Basically it boiled down to a choice between a nicer screen that could be customized or potentially unlimited battery life. I decided to give the AMOLED model a try and so far I’ve been really impressed! If you’ve owned an instinct before, this new one operates exactly the same way. If you’re new to this model or Garmin in general, be prepared to lear how to navigate all of the functions with just the buttons. It’s confusing at first, but will become second nature after some practice. The display looks good and is very legible, even in glaring sunlight. This new model is incredibly light! I opted for the 50mm because it had slightly better battery life over the 45mm. My old instinct was a 45mm and feels about the same weight or even heavier than the new 50mm. Also, I have smaller wrists and was surprised how well the 50mm felt. The battery life has been good so far. After a full charge it said I had 24 days of charge. After 4 days of use (with the display in “raise to wake”) and after a 2 hour hike using gps along with a recorded 1 hour workout, I have 19 days of charge remaining. Overall I’m impressed and very happy with my choice. Should I encounter any issues in the near future I’ll write a follow up review. P.S. the flashlight is a really nice addition!
Best Smartwatch I've owned
Garmin watches have always been a brand type that I never really thought I would ever adapt to. It was always about running in my mind and not really for anything less than this but I was wrong. The advancment in this product is outstanding and very useful for everyday things as simple as a getting a text message alerts, to sleeping, to stair climbing or riding a motorcycle or AV. And I love the battery life out of this thing. It finally gave me the ability to leave behind the charging every night (with a 18 day battery life) which never made sense for Smartwatches that keep track of sleep if you have to spend the night charging them. On top of all this is the absolute stunner of looks of the amoled screens and manageble looks of the 45mm frame of the watch. Love it without looking like a science experiment. And finally the fact that it's not a touch screen, I thought would bother me, but no... It's actually more useful this way at all times instead of some of the time. With gloves, in rain, or whatever is going on, pushing the buttons never creates accidental activities.
Color screen and battery life with accuracy.
I am a Garmin addict. However was stuck on my instinct 2 tactical cause it worked and was amazing. This watch was one amazing upgrade and the light has been used many times. Used the strobe when roadside for an emergency. Used the flashlight to fix something in a pinch. The color screen is easy to read and battery life is amazing. I feel this watch will help bridge the gap for those coming from the Apple Watch while giving them a better quality item.
Tough Watch
I've had my Instinct3 50mm for a few months. So far this watch is performing better than expected over my former Apple Watch Series 8. I needed a watch that was simply better built and tougher than my Apple was. I'm retired and do a lot of farm and ranch work...beats up a watch pretty quick. The ruggedness of the Instinct3 has delivered in every instance (not a scratch yet). The battery life...game over Apple! The display is easy to read in sunlight or shade. I get the same health related data and a little more on my Instinct3 than I did with my Apple. Workout data is easy to view and track as well!! Overall this is just a better product for me than Apple ever produced. Thanks Garmin, well done indeed.
Awesome for Everyday!
I’ve had this watch for nearly 2 months now, and it is awesome. I know a lot of reviewers like the longer battery life on the solar, but I really liked the AMOLED display better, and I’m not disappointed at all with it. I upgraded from my Apple Watch SE, and this watch is awesome, for hiking, swimming, running and weightlifting at the gym. It has a lot of cool features. If you’re on the fence for this watch I highly recommend it! I wear it everyday and the battery lasts me 1 month which is good for me!
Not for me
I have been using fitbits for the past ten years but needed a new smartwatch and Google has stopped making new fitbits for iphones. I don't want an apple watch due to low battery life. I really mainly used the fitbit for steps, calories, heartrate and a sleep score. I bought the Garmin recognizing that it was overkill for this use but was disappointed to learn that the app is much more geared to hardcore adventuring and doesn't handle the basics as well as a fitbit. Currently it is sitting in the drawer. Any chance I could get a refund (even partial)? I threw away the box
