[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Absolutely love this jacket, it's extremely light, yet still so very warm. The black color soaks up the sun during tough alpine days, and lets you regain the drive to keep getting after it! I've climbed about 50 rock pitches in the front range wearing it so far, and it's still held up fine with no rips or tears. Unfortunately I don't have any photos of it in massive action, but I do have some stylistic shots of my partner wearing it around during and after a boulder canyon dragging day. It was very very cold outside (plus, she's a tropical person) and she had no complaints! Mammut gave me this free product to try, and I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review. This doesn't diminish my viewpoint of the product though! I'd likely purchase it myself if I was not gifted it.
I have not been able to "push the jacket to the limit" but the times I have worn it so far I am pleased! I think it is hard to find a better high fill down jacket at the price point (ExpertVoice price)! It is lightweight and compacts down to a pretty small package. I have not tested it when it has been wet but I suspect it will perform well in light rain conditions. The only thing I don't like is that lack of lined exterior pockets. Definitely not a deal breaker but would have been nice. I would recommend this down hooded jacket to anyone wanting a high quality ethical down jacket!
Really solid so far. Used in both alpine backcountry and everyday; it’s not so warm that you’re sweating where you stand, but retains heat very well. I’m a thin build and it fits well, as is the case with a lot of mammut’s products (usually run thin fit). My only wish is that the hood had a tightener. Otherwise this is a phenomenal puffy so far and I’m perfectly satisfied with the buy. Note that the sizing runs tall rather than wide — so a medium is a good fit for a tall build IMO.
I like these jackets so much I owe two of them. Primarily used when ice climbing as an everything jacket. Will bring as an extra layer to climb or belay in. It's light, warm for its weight and packs relatively small. I'm six foot tall and one hundred sixty five pounds, Mammut's website suggests a medium, I purchased size large to fit over base layers and mid weight jacket. Although not necessarily helmet compatible, the hood just fits over a helmet.
I picked one of these up this past spring and am finally getting to really put it to use. I run warm to begin with but, this jacket has been quite impressive so far, keeping me almost hot down to about 30F with just a t-shirt underneath and jeans. It is probably not going to replace my MHW thick puffer for deep winter but it is going to see some use for layering on my winter camping trips. It is incredibly light and compresses well but I really struggle to make it fit in the pocket so I generally just stuff it in a dry bag and squeeze the air out. I haven't tried any similar UL puffers but this one feels great compared to the entry level ones I've tried in the past. Edit: As winter has rolled in I've been able to try this in colder temps and found that I was still warm in this at -2F with a 200gsm merino long sleeve and pocket hat.
The jacket's zipper keeps coming undone, and I have to keep adjusting it. Additionally, the jacket I saw in the store in Gdańsk, Poland, had more down filling, especially on the sleeves. I thought the Mammut brand and high price meant quality. Unfortunately, I was disappointed.
Well fitting. Extremely warm and light. Exactly what I was looking for in a backpacking down jacket. Barely feel wind in 20F weather.
This coat is super warm. It somehow feels cheap... I'm not sure if it's the stitching or the face the letters are coming off already.
This coat is well-made and withstands daily use. The arms are slim and will be a tight fit for anyone with an athletic build.
Under light uses I do get a feather making its way out from time to time. Over all I like the jacket.
