Black Diamond  Solution 1.0 Insulated Hoody - Men's

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Update Feb 2026: Ive been using this now since the fall and it has become my go to mid layer for skiing. It does a great job providing warmth without much bulk under my shell. The surface fabric is showing a tiny bit of wear from my ski bib straps/buckles, but that is to be expected and has been less than on some of my previous mid layer pieces. When not wearing a shell while touring/hiking the surface fabric handles light snow well, but if it really starts coming down, or if it is raining you will still want a shell layer. Original review: These are my initial impressions of the hoody after having it for a couple weeks. Ive been using it around town on cool fall mornings and evenings as well as a few chilly hikes. It does a pretty good job insulating while the fleece side panels allow it to vent as activities get more intense. The medium fit seems good and tru to size for me 5'8 175 and a bit on the longer torso/arm side for my hight. Hood fits well and keeps the chill out pretty well. I haven't climbed in it yet, but did try it on under my climbing helmet and it seems to work. Would be a little restricting over my climbing helmet unless I unzip it a bit. I'm looking forward to using it more as a mid layer this winter for skiing, ski touring, and ice climbing. This will be my go to mid layer while coaching kids this winter on the free ride ski team. I really recommend this to anybody looking for a good active insulation layer for cool weather activities or if you just want a nice layer to wear out to the local watering hole. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love this hoody! I orginally got the Solution 1.0 Hoody to use as a technical soft shell layer for climbing and skiing. Not only has it become an integral part of my technical layer system, but also a staple in my everyday wardrobe. The nylon shell and woven side panels have a premium feel and are very comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. The stretch provided by the side panels makes the hoody feel less constricting and adds more freedom of movement than a typical down-insulated jacket, especially with overhead movements. The side panels also provide good breathability, which I have liked to keep cool and let moisture out when skinning or climbing up a mountain. Layering this with a hard shell to stop heat loss during short rests has been fantastic! Medium size fits me well at 5'9 175 lbs, large enough to fit some base/mid/insulating layers underneath and very comfortable wearing just a shirt off the mountain, but not too baggy to prevent hard shells/parkas to go over the top. The hoody is very lightweight and can easily compact down to a small size. I am very impressed with the product and have been using it far more than I expected too, taking it resort skiing, backcountry skiing, rock climbing, and mountaineering! It has far exceeded my expectations and would recommend this product to anyone looking for a lightweight, but breathable insulating layer for technical or everyday use.

This is a light weight and lightly insulated jacket with breathable side panels. Somewhat reminds me of a thinner version of my Arc’teryx Atom. The fit is decent and not super athletic. The large seems true to size. The green color is great to have an option that is not some hyper bright, glow in the dark color that everyone seems to make these days. My only real minor gripe is it is a little more shiny than I like and that it’s not windproof but the side panels don’t make that possible so it was expected and never claimed to be.

I was searching for a synthetic down jacket for summer / wet conditions and found this hoody! There's not many great other options and I'm really glad I found this one. It has INCREDIBLE fit (all of BD's clothing fits tall, athletic builds), has great pockets, and a really good tempurature-regulating design. It's great for summer in the alpine where you don't want to carry bulky down jackets but need a solid warmth down layer. Also, I am always a fan of the tundra color, thanks!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] i haven't taken this into the backcountry yet, but I've worn it on cold windy days biking and at the beach. I've been extremely impressed with the breathability for a synthetic fabric, it was able to warm me up very quickly on a cold windy beach day. I plan to keep this in my pack when touring most days this winter. really excited about using this daily. (disclosure: I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review.)

The Solution 1. 0 is great as I can wear it almost daily while layering a fleece under it on colder days. I personally prefer lighter insulation in jackets as opposed to heavier, but I could see owning the Solution 2. 0 as well. That said, I am really enjoying the versatility of the lightweight 1. 0. Nicely styled and well designed for ease of movement. I'm 6'1" 170lbs and size Medium was perfect for me.
