what happened?!
I’ve been a fan of this brand for years. Had to return the last pair due to rubbing on my big toe. Tried a different type and even sized up and still too tight on toe area. Thought I was crazy but they are the size I ordered. So disappointed in the quality. I walk all day for my job and will be spending more money for a different brand. I hate the laces, which I used to love. They seem shorter than the previous years. Can’t find a happy medium. I wear them lose which makes my toe over extend and causes extreme pain. The one thing I do love is the one time I wore them in a rain storm. My feet were so dry when everything else on my body was soaked. Going to try to return.
No longer a reliable brand for overpronation
I was a big fan of X Ultra 3, and was hoping these would be a similar fit. Sadly they are not. X Ultra 3 was comfortable straight from the box, and gave me the arch support I needed for overpronation. These seem to do the opposite, they push my feet into an overpronation position, and caused ankle and knee pain. I tried changing the insole for an orthotic insole (one that I use in other shoes, so I know it's good) but that still didn't work. When I look at the shoes from the back, they do look like they lean inwards (see photo) which is exactly what I don't want!! Unfortunately I had walked in them so I couldn't return.
Not waterproof
Disappointed - I walked around in these in Paris in light - medium rain for 2 hours and my feet got wet, my socks were proper wet. Additionally, the fit of the shoe is not comfortable, very narrow and would recommend a size up to your usual size.
Great
I recently purchased the Salomon X ULTRA 360 GTX WOMEN'S, and overall, I really like these shoes. They are comfortable, provide good support, and perform well for hiking. However, one key drawback is the elastic Quicklace system. Unlike traditional laces, these cannot be manually tied, which limits how tightly you can secure the shoessomething particularly important for hiking. Additionally, the elastic laces feel somewhat fragile and seem like they might lose elasticity over time. Regular laces tend to be stronger and more durable, so I'd love to see future models with an option for traditional laces, as found in other Salomon designs. Despite this, the shoes are great in terms of fit, grip, and waterproofing. If Salomon improves the lacing system, they would be even better!
Super comfy!! Loved these for hiking ANP
I bought these to hike Acadia NP , mostly vertical hiking and absolutely loved them. It rained a bit on our trip and they still gripped well while climbing. Did over 35 miles of hiking in 2 days and my feet stayed comfortable and dry. 5/5 stars!!
Very disappointed
I have been wearing Salomon hiking shoes for the last 20 years and x-ultra for the last 4 years (although lower quality compared to early years), that’s why didn’t even search for any other shoes. Omg i am sooo disappointed. Everything about the shoe has changed, the look is different (wide tongue area, looking big, ugly!). It is very stiff, tried wearing at home for a few hours and got blisters. I can’t understand how companies manage to ruin their long term best selling products.
My first hiking shoe
Prior to purchasing this shoe, I've only hiked in regular sneakers, so I did some research on what to look for in the hiking shoes and wanted to find a good deal for my first pair. I think these are really comfortable and I love that they don't have laces. They have great grip and my micro spikes fit over them without issue. I've enjoyed hiking this winter and look forward to more adventures this year.
Good but not the women's Ultra w40
I have worn the Salomon Ultra w40 for years for hiking and walking and can wear them all day. Love the way they fit my narrow foot. Could not find them anywhere so ordered the X Ultra 360 and have mixed feelings. Love the fit BUT the hard toe protector has been agony to wear. I'm going to wear the shoes a little at a time to try to break them in more. Are you no longer making the Ultra w40???
The worst shoes I have ever bought
Left foot? Had to put moleskin to protect my foot from the inside of the plastic bits shown on the outside. The right foot? Caused shin splints for three days, followed by an excruciatingly sore knee. These provide zero support and are badly made. For the over pricing, these are not worth the money in any way whatsoever. VERY unimpressed.
Awful hiking shoes. Do not buy
I am an avid hiker and have always purchased salmon for their quality and comfort and this is probably the worst shoe I’ve ever purchased in all my years. They get so hot on my feet so quickly and I cannot leave them on for more than a 2-3 hours with just regular socks. After only a month of wearing these the rubber notches on the bottoms of the shoe just started tearing off and now whenever there are rocks or sticks on the path the bottom of the shoe catches on those things so I trip all the time. There is little to no ankle support and my shoe laces never ever stayed tied no matter how much I tie them. As a person who has always bought Salomon hiking boots I am extremely disappointed. I literally can’t even wear these. I have probably worn these less than 30 times since I bought them a year ago and am just using my old busted up Salomon’s with holes in them and no tread on the bottom rather than these to hike. What a waste of money. Please do not buy.
