Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.
Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:
Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.
Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.
Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

I've been a long time user of altea shoes, I love the wider toe box and the general fit and comfort of the lone peak. I bought these with the sole purpose of keeping my feet dry during long walks with the dog- I have other shoes that I use for running and figured using them just for walks would help preserve what is by all accounts a very expensive piece of footwear. This effort was completely in vain. Maybe a 3-4 weeks after purchasing them I already noticed flecks of the gorres waterproofing creasing and falling off the surface of the shoe. 5 months later the waterproofing has become essentially worthless and the structural components of the shoe are also breaking down. I expect more from a 150 dollar purchase and it's clear to me that Altra has made major shortcuts in the production of some of their more recent products releases. Were I to do things over again I'd just buy a nice pair of rubber boots or shoes. This product fills neither niche of serving as a functional water resistant trail runner or a regular walking shoe and there are clearly better choices on both accounts.
My Lone Peak 7 WP low shoes just set a record for number of miles at >500. They are starting to show their miles with a sloped sole and uppers that are just starting to show wear at the big toe. The velcro (I added it) is also past its time. They have kept my feet warm, dry and ash-free the entire 520 miles, and now it’s time for a new pair (in the closet). https://goatbells.blog/?p=559
Very comfortable but because of the waterproofness, they don't breathe and my feet get very hot and smelly.
