Does not work as advertised

The advertising for this radio gives the impression that the solar panel charges the radio. It does NOT do that. At best, it helps sustain the charge provided by the hard-wired plug. And it doesn't accomplish that very well. The charge runs down pretty fast. I purchased it hoping to use the radio during power outages that last several days in my area and was hoping to have a radio I could charge without power. That is not possible with this radio. I found no indication in the accompanying literature of how long I'd have to crank it to charge it. Judging from my attempts, that must take an exhaustingly long time. The radio would be fine as long as you have a hot connection and don't expect to charge it via solar, or the little crank.

Solar charge failure

This was a gift. Seemed good at first- when in the sun the battery level display would cycle showing solar charging. Then this stopped - no more solar charging going on. Disappointed this failed with only a few months non-rugged use. Will consider exchange, as other reviews seemed to state the solar charge worked.

Not good tuning ability

I was excited to receive this radio. It has a good intersection of features. When it arrived I tried it out - I quickly found out that its tuning ability leaves one wanting. In my area it is usual to get 7 to 8 stations on the FM Band . I was able to get 1 station to come in clearly! I moved around a lot trying to improve the reception - I even brought the radio miles away from where I live to see if that made a difference . Bottom line both AM & FM were not able to tune in the usual stations for my area . So, I returned it. Be aware that because it contains a battery shipping costs more than standard First Class. I spent $ 20 to return this item, in addition to REI fee of $6 ot 7 dollars to be deducted from my refund - costly choice in the end

Great lil radio

This emergency radio is great for any indoor/outdoor area. It works great a standard AM/FM radio but also can provide weather alerts in the area. It also has a handy flashlight feature and can be easily recharged by solar, hand-crank or usb.

Nice radio for the price

Nice little radio for the price. It's lightweight and the flashlight is bright. The radio can be charged multiple ways. The sound is good and loud for a small radio, love the weather band and great to have when camping or hiking.

Exactly what I needed

Easy to use. Charges my phone. Clear radio and weather band receptions. The solar charger works well, even in low light. Excellent item for the lake, ball field, etc.. Highly recommend for the outdoor enthusiast.

Prep For Hurricane Season

Product is exactly what I needed in preparation for hurricane season. The NOAA weather band sounds exactly like it did when I was a kid. The hand cranked generator is a useful feature.

Arrived just as described. I feel more confident knowing I'll always be able to access information from the radio even after my batteries die. I love the crank-power option!

Midland ER40 Radio

Radio works very well. Emergency weather alert is loud, but that is a good thing. Flashlight is bright. Radio in FM mode sounds clear. AM is just ok.
