If you were unfamiliar with Garmin and you read the negative review of this watch you'd likely be running away. Take the negative reviews with a grain of salt, they apparently have zero common sense. Someone is comparing an LCD display from a Fenix 4 to an AMOLED display, they apparently have more money than brains. Do your research on this watch line, there are different models for different use cases. I went with a 47mm Solar Fenix 8 because I know what I was looking for. Prior to this watch I had a Garmin 645 Music. Familiarize yourself with sizing, display type, solar/non solar, etc. There are MANY variants of the Fenix 8 and if you're going to drop a 5 figure sum on this, you cant blame anyone buy yourself for failing to do the research. I swear, I cringe when I read the low star reviews because its absolutely evident that those reviewers didnt do the research and simply bought the most expensive variant. A bunch of fools. I am happy with the variant I went with, you will to if you spent months researching and ensuring what you invested in is exactly what you want.

hardware and software failure

Dove into the water and it crashes hard. Rebooted and didn’t lose progress but isn’t this supposed to be waterproof? Afterward the pressure elevation varied fr GPS elevation by 400 ft for the rest of the day. Still won’t synch activities despite restarting, reinstalling, and resynching multiple times. For a device that’s this expensive this litany of failure on basic tasks in the first 24 hours is shocking.

Awesome Watch

Purchased the Fenix 8, 51mm AMOLED sapphire, just over a month ago and I’m very pleased with the watch. I owned a Fenix 7 Solar previously and it was a solid watch with great features and quality. Made the move to the 8 for the AMOLED feature knowing the brightness of the watch face would be a big plus. The feel of the button press is different from the Fenix 7 but not in a bad or odd way. I have been an Apple Ultra 2 owner and wearer but no more. The features, AMOLED face and battery life of the Fenix 8 have converted me to become a Garmin daily wearer.

Love my Fenix 8

Had my fenix 8 for over a month and I’m enjoying it. Great for outdoor activities, running and I use it when lifting. The flashlight is handy and is going to be great hunting this fall when going in and out of the woods.

Enjoying it so far

Coming from the Garmin Instinct 2x Solar I like this watch. The screen is clear and bright. I haven't had any issues, you just need to be patient when you take it out of the box because it does several updates. The price is steep but it's the top of the their lineup without going to the Marq so I get it... I was previously an Apple watch user and I really did not like the daily charging or the health metrics, this feels like a modern tool watch.

Awesome Watch Excellent Features

The Garmin Fenix 8 AMOLED 47mm is an excellent watch, its advanced health tracking and golf features, are super cool. The bright AMOLED display is easy to see and read. My watch offers in-depth health insights, including heart rate variability, sleep quality, recovery status, and personalized energy monitoring through the Body Battery feature. I love the built-in GPS with Plays Like distances, Virtual Caddy, automated shot tracking, and access to thousands of courses. Despite all these features, its battery life is out of this world. I recommend this watch whether you're training for peak performance or fine-tuning your golf game. I love my Fenix 8.

Promptly returned my Fenix

a couple quick observations - the watch looks good - the display is good - feature set like activity tracking etc seems complete - feels less than premium though compared to my apple watch ultra, lighter, feels plasticy. Trying to configure it was a nightmare. I turned on the password to unlock the watch. As I was trying to set up my watch face the password prompt kept popping up. Trying to set the various widgets on the home screen was awkward to the point I gave up. Not sure that I ever felt comfortable using the touch screen and physical buttons for navigation seems very 80's. Finally I didn't really want to stop using the current golf tracking subscription I have but would have if I loved the watch. Since I would use that app on the Fenix and I there was enough friction getting things set up that sealed it for me. Returned w/in 72 hours.

Fenix Addict

I bought my first Garmin watch, a Forerunner 205, about 20 years ago. I lost my way and replaced it with an iPhone to track my fitness. I made it back to Garmin with a Fenix 5, then upgraded to a 7X, and now this. The AMOLED Display is bright and easy to read, but it wish it was always on. This is the only complaint I could come up with. It lights up with a touch, push of a button, or usually a gesture. It would just be nice to see the time with a glance. The GPS is great, altimeter works great, heart rate from the wrist is extremely accurate for me, and the activity tracking and data logging in Garmin Connect is awesome.

Great Features and a Worthwhile Upgrade

I upgraded to the Fenix 8 51mm from the Epix Pro II (51mm). For me the upgrade was worthwhile. I like the way the new buttons function. I also like the updated interface, which takes very little time to get used to. I also really like the mini-speaker. All of these features have me really enjoying the watch. I have owned every Fenix variant since the Fenix 3 and think the jump from Epix to Fenix was the most significant.

OUT OF THE PARK

Garmin really did a great job with the Fenix 8 AMOLED. I have owned a Fenix 3, Fenix 5, and Fenix 7x pro. Each one was an upgrade from the previous version owned, but the fenix 8 really seems to have it all. I opted to go with the AMOLED display over the SOLAR simply because of the display. The battery life of the AMOLED is still the same for me as when i used the solar display (27-29 days) But the bright colorful display and smooth operation of the touch screen is hard to beat. If you are looking fo a smartwatch that will meet all of your needs then this is the watch for you. It truly is worth the price!!
