Best Salomon Hiking Shoes So far!!
Love these shoes--fave Salomon hiking shoes ever. I've been a Salomon fan for years in Colorado. Started with several pairs of Speedcross but the soles wear out in less than 6 months on CO rough trails. Then went to X Ultra Pioneers and they lasted 2-3 years, but they are a bit stiff and blocky for nimble hiking, Also tried the XA Pro 3D and they felt loose and sloppy. Never fit my heel and never had much support--and way too big for my normal size. Tried these X ultra 5's and love them. Plenty of support but still nimble and GREAT tread!! And they fit my heel. I sized down to a 7 from my normal 7.5 and they fit great. Super happy with these!
QuickLACE system broke upon first use
I purchased these in store after trying them on and receiving raving reviews from other shoppers, but they broke upon first use. Still useable, but very disappointing to have new shoes break upon first wear. I would've returned them, but I live abroad and did not have adequate time to drive another 2.5 hours to the nearest REI before my flight. Luckily, my handy uncle was able to fix the part that broke. I caution buyers to beware of the quickLACE system that should ultimately save time and make your life easier.
Walk without pain!!
Best shoe and great support. So comfortable.
Enough with the quick lace systems!
I was very excited to try these shoes considering how highly rated they are by backpacking media groups. I was very disappointed that the quick lace system caused pain in my fifth metatarsal joints after walking around in my house for only 45 minutes. The same issue happened to be with a Salomon trail running shoe with the quick lace system, but I chalked that up to being an issue with that specific model. Nope. My mother tried these shoes as well and had the same issue. Salomon, can you please just make your shoes adaptable for people who need traditional laces? These eyelets are too small to fit them in.
Great comfort and traction
I purchased the gore-tex version of this shoe last year for extensive walking and hiking overseas. I was happy with the comfort and stability, so once the non-waterproof version came on sale, it was an easy choice to buy for summer hikes. Great traction and the Ultra 5 is not as narrow as other Salomon trail shoes I've tried in the past.
Like wearing slippers
So comfortable, expensive but worth investing in. poor foot wear has led to other health issues in the past, back, hip, plantar fasciitis. They’re great for the hiking but also my favourite go to gardening shoes. I’m going to get another pair so I’ll always have a replacement now that I’ve found my perfect shoe.
Dry, Comfortable, and Trail-Ready
I put these hiking shoes to the test on a 3-mile hike through extremely muddy, wet, and snowy conditions, and they seriously impressed me. Even after hours on the trail, they stayed comfortable the entire time (I proactively wore bandaids to prevent rubbing). Despite all the water and slush, my feet stayed completely dry inside.
Best of Both Worlds (boot + trail runners)
I was looking for a shoe that has the support of a hiking boot to handle long-haul backpacking trips but with the lightweight agility and quick-dry that trail runners offer. This hiking shoe offers the best of both. Having used Salomon trail runners for years, I'm familiar with the quick lace system and it has yet to fail me. Adjustments are easy and there's no fuss with a quick tightening or loosening. When I first stepped into these I felt like my foot was being cradled. These offer great arch support without getting clunky like a boot. My main complaint about trail runners is that they don't feel sturdy enough for heavy packs and long miles, but I don't have that concern with these shoes. Aside from backpacking I've worn these on more scramble-like cragging approaches and have good grip and agility. These offer more ventilation than a hiking boot (though not as much as a trail runner), which is great for longer, hotter summer hikes. Naturally that means they are not waterproof, which is a feature I was actively avoiding with these shoes - I prioritized ventilation and quick-dry over waterproofing. That said, I had to step into some deep water in order til fill them, well over over the sole.
Good
Bought these a few weeks ago - wish I had sized up. With normal socks they're just about okay bit with hiking socks they're on the small side. Found them quite narrow
