Super Lightweight - Needs liner & better pockets
I picked up the Janji Alti 6" Shorts for hiking and running, drawn to their lightweight fabric and minimalist design that promised a nearly weightless feel and quick-drying performance. The simplicity appealed to me for versatile use, from trails to casual outings. On a trail run, they felt great at first—ultra-light and non-restrictive, allowing full mobility without any bulk. I also wore them for a long day walking around town with friends, where the breathable material kept things comfortable while dry. However, the downside to a lack of a built-in liner quickly became apparent; the product description mentions it, but with such featherweight fabric, wearing something underneath is non-negotiable to avoid discomfort. This pushed them down my list of go-tos. During a hike that turned rainy, they got soaked, and while I'd expect them to dry fast on their own, moisture from my shirt and undershorts kept them damp. The material then clung like a windbreaker, feeling sticky against the skin and requiring constant adjustment—not ideal for active movement. Pros: Incredibly lightweight, almost unnoticeable when worn; hang them up, and they dry faster than expected, ready for the next adventure. Cons: No built-in liner limits comfort and versatility, especially for running; side pockets are deep but poorly secured, causing items like keys or a wallet to slide and twist during motion, needing frequent fixes; when wet, the fabric clings uncomfortably and doesn't wick away moisture as hoped when layered with other damp gear. Adding a liner option or better pocket attachment could expand their appeal for multi-use scenarios. These shorts reminded me that ultra-light materials without support features can feel more like short windbreaker pants—promising on paper but limited in practice for consistent wear. I'd recommend them for dry, low-key activities where you prioritize minimalism, but not as a primary running short. They're far from my ideal for that purpose.
