Great fitting lightweight short.
I haven't worn these around yet, but I am really excited about these shorts. I'm 5'7", age 54, Waist: 30", Hips: 38", longer torso and shorter legs. I have a booty and a hard time finding shorts that fit me well everywhere AND are not SHORT!!!! Despite my having shorter legs. Companies LOVE to make shorty shorts only for women, which irks me to no end. These fit perfectly!!! I wish there were more colors. Colors across the board on women's clothing right now are a bit more drab. These have a zipper, button AND a drawstring. Side note: I also ordered the REI "Trailmade shorts" too in size M-coral and they also fit very well, baggy enough and just cover my thicker inner/upper thighs. Well done!
Flawed belt loop design
These could be great shorts! They have adequate pockets and lightweight breathable fabric. The elastic waist ensures they fit snuggly and comfortably. However, they have a fatal flaw which renders them unwearable. They have belt loops that wrap into the inside of the waist with thick scratchy stitchings and the edges of fabric that prodrude into my waist rather than lay flat. I've never seen belt loops designed this way. I will return them. I had the most excruciating day hike ever courtesy of these shorts.
Great for curvy women
I have been searching for the perfect shorts forever. These are it! I sized up one (as I usually do for shorts because of larger thighs). I may sew the slant pockets down (so bad for curvy women, a zipper would have been perfect). The length on these is great, and they cuff well if you want them a bit shorter. So excited to finally have a pair of shorts I love that let me move. I’ll be wearing these on the trail and for nicer occasions that are shorts- friendly. Grabbing another pair before these disappear! Anyone with muscular thighs and a booty will love these. I never ever write reviews but need to encourage anyone also searching for shorts to try these!
*Not* true to size.
With warmer weather, it was time to get some new shorts. These seemed like an awesome option and still do, but with more difficulty. REI is pretty bad when it comes to plus sizes. What with women's clothing never carrying 2x in store, but men's do. Plus size women getting a fragment of the choices in color, size, and stock. But most important of all, very rarely being true to size. I can't tell you how many times I've ordered an 18, and it was three sizes too small. This product is very much like that. I was off by four inches or so, with no hope of getting them on, especially not comfortably. REI, get your act together, and actually be inclusive when it comes to sizing.
Lots of pockets, great length.
I am not a small person (200lbs 5’11”) and finding shorts that won’t ride up and also have pockets and also ones I don’t need to size up because outdoorsy clothes brands think that everyone who likes the outside is a size XS with a thigh gap is a pain in my size L butt. These are great! I immediately bought a second pair. They’re just the right length, they fit at a size L, I don’t have to go up. The back zipper pocket is perfect for masks too, mine kept falling out of my other pants pockets. The zipper makes sure it stays in there. These are great to hike in but nice enough I feel I can wear them around town on inactive days.
Odd proportions
Reading other reviews, I decided it was important to try these on in the store. Luckily my local REI had some in stock for me to try on multiple sizes. Normally I am most comfortable in a women's 18w in these type of shorts from other manufacturers. I tried on the 18W first and couldn't button them. When I put on the 20W, the waste was fine, but the rest of the shorts were very baggy - in the crotch and legs. There is a tie in the waist, but that doesn't really matter if that's the smallest part of the shorts. Unfortunately, I passed these up and went with a different brand in stock at REI, for $20 more. They fit much better.
I miss the previous version because....
I much preferred the previous version of these shorts because: - I miss the mini zippable side cargo pockets - The elastic waist band is a new thing and the pants constantly slipping down esp. when I bend down and give an unnecessary butt-peak to an unwitting audience without a belt - The material of the fabric is slightly diff. I prefer the previous b/c it's more quick drying and I don't sweat so easily in the earlier version.
Great shorts, need more
I love these shorts, right length and the stretch in the back makes them super comfy, airy and light!
Go-to hiking shorts.
I have worn these a handful of times on both short and long hikes and they are incredibly comfortable. Not sure how other reviewers said it's not made for a woman's body?? I thought the elastic in the back was a nice touch especially if you're curvier and appreciate the extra give that button closure bottoms sometimes don't have. I personally like the string in the front as well because anyone who does long hikes knows that bottoms can stretch out in the waist and the string is a nice way to keep the shorts up and comfortable without having to wear a belt. Length is nice too and these have a decent all-over stretch as well. Fit TTS for me. I am 5'6", 160 and wear a size 8.
Perfect hiking shorts for pear shaped woman
For reference, my hips are two sizes larger than my waist. This was true when I had a size 4 waist and size 8 hips and it is true now that I have a size 14 waist and size 18 hips. I purchased size 18w. Hate that I have gotten so big but am still out there living my life well and needed hiking shorts. These fit my needs, and have a drawstring in the waist in case I find the waist band has stretched out after a few hours of hiking. Bought them in green and will get them in black also. Wish they also came in khaki or blue.
