When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.

These are the best hiking boots I've ever owned. The wide toe box fits my feet perfectly, and the ankle support is terrific. I have owned these for about 2 months and hiked and snowshoe'd about 150 miles in them. There was no break in period and they are extremely comfortable. I did add some waterproofing as I had some leakage in deep water. Despite being (mostly) waterproof, they are breathable and work well on trails, with snowshoes, and walking around town. They are also excellent in very cold weather.

While I love that they are lightweight and comfortable, one of the main reasons I bought them was because they said they are waterproof. They most definitely are not. .I have had these boots for two months now and I wanted to give them a fair chance but I am disappointed that they are not waterproof.

These are not waterproof. I am so disappointed, I bought them specifically for the ability to keep my feet dry. However, the mesh on the top of the toe leaks water through even just in snow. The darker areas in picture shows where it is leaking in.

I loved these boots hiking in the SW this spring- lightweight, very comfortable, good on rocky trails, supportive, although a bit warm. Nice room for my toes, just the right amount of cushioning and support, they rocked!!! BUT on my first dewy hike back in the Pacific NW, my feet promptly were wet. I dried them out to try again but yep, not waterproof at all. I will see how good Altra’s warranty is, but REI will take care of this if needed.

I wrestled with wanting to keep or return these. I love the look of them but the fit was off. I have a pair of Altra Lone Peak 9 trail shoes in women’s size 9.5 that fit perfectly. I ordered these boots in a 9.5 as well and the length and width are spot on…very roomy in that regard. However, my toes still felt cramped, with too much pressure from the top. At first I thought maybe it’s just because they’re a thicker boot with insulation and just need broken in, but I think it’s because of the stiffer waterproofing material they’re constructed with. Ultimately decided to return them. :’(

These boots do exactly what I want them to do, right out of the box! We have a lot of abandoned railbeds in my neighborhood, many of which have been turned into hiking trails. There are side trails that go nearer small rivers or up short hills. All I want to do is walk our dog on these trails! And these boots keep my feet dry; they provide good arch support and ankle support. Most importantly, they accommodate the ginormous bunion on my left foot! Kaitlyn, the REI associate who began helping me, told me about the "zero-drop" insole. It has not been an issue at all! It's very comfortable. I have already recommended the Altra Lone Peak 9 boot to my oldest, who is quite a serious hiker and is in need of replacing her hiking boots.

Pls fix design flaws

Have loved my last 2 prs of this boot but will return the current model bc of these design drawbacks: Back of collar is cut lower than earlier models and my hunch is it will allow more trail debris to enter. Toe box not as wide as earlier models in the same size. Can't assess lack of waterproofing noted by others bc I tried on the pair delivered to my home inside. Boots had obviously been worn before, judging by soiled soles. Can't recommend.

Great wide box hiking boots!

Love these wide toe box, zero drop hiking boots. I also bought the same brand and look walking shoe. I had to size up on the boot as my toes were hitting the front of the boot. My only complaint is that the boot doesn’t seem to hold your foot quite enough to avoid your toes from sliding forward. I hope the larger size will help though. Love that they are waterproof.

OMGosh!!! These Altra "ultra light" hiking boots are amazing! Soooo light, sooooo comfortable and have been easy to break it. I am a novice hiker training for a 20 mile hike next month and the ankle support is very reassuring! Plus...since they are waterproof....rain puddles are now just fun to hike through!

The width of the toe box is great and your wide feet will rejoice . However, as you finish lacing them up and walk around, the pain in your inner ankle will have you placing them back in the box. Altra should just stick to their low cut shoes. This is my second type of Altra boot I have tried. Also, my second return of a Altra boot. I am so bummed.🙁
