Fantastic trail running shoe. I feel like I can run forever! I haven’t ran on too many technical trails but this offers comfort perfect for long distance and great traction. I love it and would recommend to any trail runner looking to put into some miles. My only complaint is I feel like they run a little smaller than other asics running shoes. My true size is 11.5 I went up to a size 12 and it still feels like an 11.5. I wish I would have went up a full size or maybe even a full size and a half. Other than that I love them. I just use the heel lock every time and haven’t had any issues.
Great shoe overall but it ran a little smaller than previous Asics I've used. Could use a wider toe box.
I got into ASICS for running with the Superblast 2 and was recently in the market for a shoe for lesser technical trails and wanted something with max cushion. These fit the bill nicely. Roomy, plush, and well cushioned like I wanted. Perfect support for casual hikes and trail running and work perfectly with my custom orthotics. The break in period for me was pretty quick as well.
I've been running in Altra Olympus for 7 years and was looking for a wide toe box, max cushion, low drop alternative. Altra no longer provides value when they sell for $185 for a heavy shoe with compressed EVA when competitors are lighter with supercritical foam for less money. First run was 9 miles in wet and muddy conditions. second run was 11 miles in mostly dry conditions. All conditions covered in these 2 runs: wet, muddy, dry, technical, elevation. Trail covered compact dirt, sand, gravel, rocks, roots, etc. I notice the high stack right away, but didn't notice the high ride after a few miles. Lugs were grippy, and I didn't slip once. I suspect they will be even grippier after they get broken in. Midsole was cushy yet firm. I need to break them in to truly get a feel for the bounce and resiliency. It took 45 miles to break in my Topos, so I think these will need a break-in period. Toebox was comfortable, and the Trabuco have wider toe boxes than most, without going to an Altra or Topos. Wet shoes didn't feel soggy when running thru rain and tall grass on singletracks. Overall, very happy these first 20 miles. max cushion, wide toebox, low drop, very grippy.
Was seeking high cushion trail runners for long efforts. They appeared to have the best grip of the 3 finalists I tested. So far they've been a dream. About 60mi running on them with an 18mi long effort. No need for a skid plate. They're incredible protective even here on Colorado's rugged trails and I haven't had a single significant ankle twist scare even with the higher stack height.
I like the brand. I like the look but I bought them for everyday wear which may not be the best option but considering this I rotate them with my other shoes so they workout. As far as actually using using them on the trail I cannot say but trust they probably work for that purpose!
Great shoe for absorbing terrain like a monster truck while feeling incredibly light on the feet. Lots of cushion and energy return without the bounciness or instability I’ve found with other taller stack shoes. Had no issues with traction in mud or on wet rocky surfaces.
The shoes are lighter which I like but the cushion seems less than the Trabuco Max 3. I do like them but hope the Max 5 has the cushion level higher. But I just replaced my Max 3's with the Max 4's and have only run in them 8 miles. Maybe they'll break in. :)
I love these shoes! My wife also just got a pair. We treated them out of the box on a 7 mile trail with at least 8 stream crossings. They were super comfortable and drained well. We both thought the comfort, grip, and look were all superior!
Wide toe box and true to size. Comfort is beyond belief. Smooths out rough roads and less technical trails. Would not use on rough terrain as the tactile feel is a bit comprised by such a high stack height. Overall an amazing shoe.
