I got my La Sportiva Prodigio Pros for an ultramarathon: 162 km, 8000 m of vert, and terrain so rocky it felt personal. Going into the race they already had about 300 km and 12,000 m of vert on them. after that the bounce was more “taxed” than “fresh,” but they still had plenty of life left. I just kept abusing them and finished the entire North Island of Te Araroa in the same pair roughly another 1500 km of mud, rocks, rivers, and poor life choices. At that point the shoes and my feet were both held together mostly by stubbornness, tape, and hope. They’re finally finished now, retired with honours and probably eligible for a pension. I’ve switched into another pair of La Sportivas to keep the hike going, but cannot wait for the next version of the Prodigio to drop so they can suffer with me in the next race.
This has been a fantastic show! With only 2 runs on it, I ran the Desert Rats 100k in these and my feet felt great the whole time. Not a technical course, but it’s not often my feet feel great after that many miles. Since then, I’ve run on a lot more steep and technical terrain in Colorado and Washington. They hold up great. I now have over 300 miles on this pair and I still reach for them for the vast majority of my runs. Solid work horse that can do it all.
The Prodigio Pro is an absolute game-changer. Whatever they did to the midsole … it’s working!! I’m stoked there’s no plate—I’m really not convinced they help on techy trails. The cushioning is some of the best I’ve ever run in—explosive, responsive, and propulsive. Every stride feels like I’m being pushed forward, and I’m pretty sure I’ll PB every time I lace up. The forefoot has great volume for comfort, while the midfoot keeps me locked in on technical terrain. Plus, the deep lugs provide top-tier traction—something I find rare in a shoe this fast. To sum it up, the Pro is light, aggressive, and insanely fun to run in!
I have been running in Brooks Catamount 3 for most of my trail runnings and recently wanted to try a shoe with a bit more cushion and protection, specially for longer races. I did a lot of research and laded on La Sportiva Prodigio Pro and oh man my feet have not been happier ever before. Cannot believe I did not find these earlier, amazing grip on technical terrains, no slips on muddy situations, and the shoe feel amazing. Fast and responsive. Just a heads to up to size up by 1 full European size. I am US 9 true to size (European 42) and ordered these in size European 43 and they fit amazing.
Had the Prodigio original shoe for a year before getting these and they DID NOT disappoint. Super responsive, good breathability, lightweight, and great grip. Kind of everything I look for. Looking forward to getting some more miles on them!
I was skeptical going into the Prodigio, and a pair of LaSportivas again (to be honest), given the size challenges of the past. HOWEVER, take your normal size shoe in X brand, add 1/2 size UP, and give this one a try. I've never felt so cradled, hugged, and secure in an upper. The midsole is as good as any PEBA based one I've tried, and this may be the race shoe for me for 50k up to 100k. Will it go 100mi? Yes, assuming your feet don't swell like gorditas. There is decent width, but not much volume, in the toebox. It's not an ALTRA, TOPO, or even a Saucony (Xodus), but the toes are happy right now and the magic is real, folks. This could be the one. Love that it has no plate, but does protect the feet underneath (thin protective film layer), and the grip is insane! Try 'em.
BEST TRAIL SHOE I'VE RUN IN, EVER. Bouncy, grippy, comfy, fantastic lockdown, not too tippy, decent flex, great from technical trail to road - easy pace to cookin'. All around super fun and surprisingly versatile shoe for substantially less than comparable options out there, no plate needed. Only questions remaining are longevity and how they'll fare in warmer weather, otherwise AWESOME!
The Prodigio Pro is an excellent all-rounder that provides comfort, bounce, propulsion, stability, grip, and the responsiveness to make every run a delight. I have two runs that total 30 miles and I'm looking forward to a lot more miles in this shoe. It runs a bit small in my normal US size, so I went up to what is EU 41.5 (US 8.5+). This size now gives me ample room in the toe box while still providing a secure lockdown in the mid-foot and heel. This shoe is truly special and has that "magic".
Took them out for a spin up the first flatiron in Boulder. Lots of rocker, sock liner collar that keeps rocks out, wide enough platform and just soft enough midsole that I'm not too worried about extra ankle rolls due to the stack height. Frixion White, LaSpo's stickiest running shoe rubber on the outsole. The midsole, though thicker, is not as soft as the Prodigio non-pro version (which does not have enough forefoot cusion), but more height and more bouncy. Kind of a rubber bouncy ball feel. Less ground feel, but more protection from sharp rocks. Certainly not nearly as squishy as speedgoat 5s (I haven't tried the 6 which has a more responsive midsole). My knees prefer the squishier EVA midsoles over the more responsive TPU or TPU/EVA soles, but I also have existing knee issues. Others might like the energy return. And I probably need to do more strength work... but my knees are sore for a week after a trail run typical for me that never bothers me in my standard speedgoat 5s. They were good on the up and the down with my only fit complaint being slight rub on outside of big toe on the down. They could be a bit wider there. I'm impressed with how securely the uppers held on all terrain. The uppers are comfortable at the same time and it's easy to get the lace tension right. I'll keep working on my knee strength, but for now, the responsive midsole (returning so much energy back to my joints) doesn't work. Could be slightly wider near the end of the toe box, but overall impressed with the shoe.
It took three tries but I think I finally the right trail running shoe for me. I run around the trails every day for 3-4 miles a day. I have wide flat feet. I tried the Speedgoat 5's. They were too hard under foot. I tried the S/Lab Genesis. Slim fitting but not painful for width. Unfortunately, there was something about its construction above my big toe joint that caused painful bone bruising and and rubbed my skin raw. It took about 50 miles before I found a way to make it work but depends on a tight heel lock down. I just bought these Sportiva's and I wish I had purchased them first. I'm normally a women's 8 Wide or a 6.5 Men's size. I sized up to a 7 Men's and it was a perfect fit. Plenty of width and room for my toes. My heels sink into place. It's similar to the S/Lab Genesis under foot if not a tad more stable because of the wider base and probably more foam but it's not stiff or bulky by any means. I love them and would recommend them to anyone.
