Sizing Notes

Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.

Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:

Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.

Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.

Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

IS THIS SHOE TRUE TO SIZE? The product Features above will provide a suggestion if Altra advises you to size up or down in this particular shoe. If no such note exists, please order your regular size.

Altra’s prove the best.
For me, Alta is orthopedically the best shoe! I found out the hard way. I got caught up in all the colors another brand offered. They had a 4 mm drop. I began to have slight issues with my hip. I got rid of all the other running shoes. After I got back into the Altra’s, I went for a run and I could finish the run! Altra is the only one for me. You’ve done well addressing negative and positive feedback by making appropriate changes. You have proven yourselves the best!!

Heard great things, not great performance
I have two family members who recommended Altra Torins, so I tried the 8. I love the last Lone Peak trail runners I bought, but this Torin is almost unwearable for me. I used them at the gym for over a month and have tried going on 3 mile walks with them twice. I am 5'7", 150lbs and normally wear size 9 to 9.5. These are size 9. Even with an inch of toe space the shoe is not wide enough. The narrow sides cause me foot pain on the side of my feet when I walk or do stationary bike. The biggest issue is the back/ankle support. It is very stiff with very little padding, mostly on the ankle, leaving the achilles exposed to a tough situation. This shoe gives me very bad blisters and has rubbed skin off. I haven't had a shoe do this since wearing stiff cheap dress shoes for way too long. I feel like I wasted money because I will not be able to wear them.

Long lasting, Cushy and Comfy

I’m a New York City, 73-year old grandma and nanny. Lots of pavement walking with toddler in tow and lots of stairs. One foot is bigger than the other. I LOVE the wider toe base. Also, I find the Altra running shoes last a lot longer than any other brand. I’m a senior on tight budget, and really appreciate the longevity of the shoe. Cushy and comfy with great support. I really appreciate REI return policy. I have never used this, but appreciate it is available in case a shoe doesn’t work.

Heel way too stiff and tight.

I have worn only Torins for years now. I love this shoe. Unfortunately, and I hope Altra reads this, the Torin 8 heal is way too tight and stiff. I’m currently tending to massive heal blisters which has never happened for me with this shoe. I’m very disappointed and hoping to find a Torin 7 out there instead. What a bummer because otherwise they have been the best!

Altras for old legs

I’ve been wearing lone peaks for about one year and have been very happy with them. However, the arthritis in one knee became acutely swollen and extremely painful and I was unable to walk much (I am trying to learn how to be old). I purchased these because I love the wide toe box, no drop, and extra cushioning Altras are known for. They are perfect. I have a narrower foot and these are slightly narrower than the lone peak but not at all uncomfortable. The cushion is just enough to soften walking on pavement but not make steps fell unstable. They have been worth every penny.

Comfy, cushy, colorful!

Wonderful shoes. I loved them the minute I put them on in the store. I slog (slow jog) on pavement and the cushioning is perfect. No pain from the neuroma in my right foot. Love these as much as the hiking boots a few months ago. Great support, my feet never get tired wearing this footwear. Also love the color!

Heel is very stiff. Gives blisters

I’ve been using the Torin shoe for years, but unfortunately this latest version doesn’t work. The heel is very stiff, it almost feels like there is a metal insert, and it gave me blisters in the first mile. I’ve given it a month to try and break them in with no luck.

great shoes but remember to size up

The shoes are amazing and very comfortable. But remember to size up. I tried 7.5 in store with different model, it fit. So I order the beautiful light blue online. But it was too small. So I returned it and needed to size up to 8.5.
