Altra  Lone Peak 9 Trail-Running Shoes - Men's

I really like these shoes. This iteration of the Lone Peak has made improvements that are great. As you know these are zero drop shoes and so you need to change from the usual heel strike running to more of a mid foot strike. That said this new version has more cushion in the heel making the transition easier. I like the change to the velcro in the heel to secure your gaiters. It is larger making it easier to hook your gaiters to the shoe. The tread is deeper and more secure on wet, rocky or muddy trails. The wide toe box is unchanged. This is a great feature since feet swell after a long run or hike. The upper mesh is not water proof and hence is more breathable and less chance of sweaty feet. There is plenty of mid foot cushion as well. They are as comfortable at the end of a run/hike as they are at the beginning. I have been doing long distance hiking in these shoes for the last few years and they are my favorite.

Great minimal running shoes, with a super wide toe box. great for wide feet and grippy as heck on the trail. Love the all black version and the odd style of running shoe make it versitile for other outfits besides running.

Snow Run and trail Run Shoes, out of the box they are easy on the eyes, feel sleek and have a great amount of room in the forefoot for those with wide feet or anyone who needs extra toe splay. Very nice sizable lugs on the tread, and TPR rubber that covers the entire bottom of the shoe, also has stabilizer type 'fins' on the heel strike portion of the shoe, great tread, great grip on the dry trail, would also work very well in moderate muddy conditions. were wonderful to get 3 miles in the fresh snow on the road, gripped great and leave a nice print in the snow as well, Laced up to feel very snug, I do tend to have a narrow foot so i have some extra room in the forefoot (hence the reason for 4 stars) but for anyone with a large (wide) forefoot or looking for the extra toe splay these would work very well for you, order this model true to size for your standard running shoe.

I have been an Altra fan for a long time now. First drawn to the idea of the wide toe box but I stuck with them for all the right reasons and the new Lines Peak 9 does not disappoint. The fit is always comfortable thanks to the shape, cushioning and lace lace system. Wether out for a trail run or a muddy hike through the PA mountains these shoes provide amazing grip, and secure feet make for a more enjoyable experience all around. These shoes have always held up well for me (even on long thru-hokes) and I am excited to test out the new more durable uppers with this model. I also appreciate the style of these shoes, they not only crush it on the trails but are a great look for a few brews or tacos around town.

This latest iteration of the Lone Peak series is a comfortable, stable, trail-worthy shoe that's a pleasure to slip on and lace up. For my daily trail runs or hikes, this shoe was easy to put on right out of the box and head out the door and onto trails. So far, I've taken these out in a potluck of conditions, including wet, snow, and ice. Traction is tacky even in poor conditions without being overly aggressive and I appreciated that balance between having some feel underfoot while still feeling like there's plenty of cushion. What I like most about these shoes and others in the line is their spacious toe box. Their literal footprint looks like what a foot is meant to fit within. This results in not only a comfortable fit but a comfortable stride when running. No slipping or wiggle, but also plenty of room for toes to spread out. Besides the snow and ice, I dipped these into a passing creek. They're not advertised to be water resistant, so I didn't have any expectations but was a little surprised that they just soaked up water immediately instead of beading even a little. (Grateful for wool socks.) Not a big deal, and probably just a testament to their breathability. That said, go with the all-weather version if you need any water resistance. Having worn a lot of zero-drop shoes including Altras, I appreciate this feel and the stride for both running and hiking. In the past, I'd thought the sizing of Altras had been inconsistent but these feel just right and as advertised. All that said, these aren't my perfect shoe. Even though they're a neutral pronation like I'm accustomed to, I think the arch placement is just a bit off for me. But I think this is just a result of feet being varied and weird. If you're looking for a zero drop, all purpose trail runner and/or have experience with the Altra fit, I think this is an ideal shoe.

I really like this shoe. I've used it for both paved and dirt trail running, and while it is pretty light (at least from my past experience) it has enough cushioning to keep my knees happy. I'm pretty much right between a 12 and 13 shoe size, and if a 12.5 isn't available I err on a size 13. I was a bit worried when the largest size available was a 12 in this shoe, but it actually fits pretty well (if my feet were any bigger it might be an issue, though!). The toe box is really generous for a running shoe as well. I might want a different color than all black, but that is just personal preference and black is "in" these days I suppose! I've been traveling in Australia with these shoes, so I don't have any info on how they do on wet surfaces.

Interesting footwear that feel like you’re not wearing a shoe. Well made, lightweight & breathable. There’s definitely a lot of technology that went into designing these! I’ve been able to use them for working out, at work and a round town. If you have the need for a wider toe area, these will definitely be for you.

Altra does it again, improving on the quintessential trail running shoe. The 9 provides a nice feel for the ground, yet with cushion and protection. I like this version of EGO midsole - a touch of spring in it. I can lock down the fit so there’s no slop, but my forefoot has plenty of room. I’m pleasantly surprised with the MaxTrac sole - plenty of grip on the wet, snowy New England granite. Gators fit perfectly, as you’d expect. Overall, the Lone Peak 9 fills my need for a shoe that can tackle the technical when I need to be sure footed, yet have range to run in comfortably for a few of hours. This is not the new super shoe with carbon plates that you’d set a PR in - this is the shoe you want to run the top of the ridgeline in. I ran the Grand Canyon R2R in my first Lone Peak, the 2.5. Version 9 instills even more confidence for a high risk run like that, coupled with more comfort.

Perfect hybrid shoe for trail running, training, and hiking. Loved using the Altra Long Peak 9's for long trail runs due to its high-mileage durability, comfort, and grip. The MaxTrac outsole's sticky underfoot grip is unique among the trail runners that I own.

Maybe I have just been under a rock and had no clue about Altras, or maybe I have been a devout Hoka man for so many years, but I was shocked to see the Velcro tabs that are built into the outside of the heel and ready hold my gaiters in place. What a thoughtful thing for Altra to do. No more having to replace my Velcro tabs because dirt get behind them! The shoes definitely feel different with the 0 drop as compared to Hoka Speedgoats. They have a similar cushy feel without the stack height.
