No UPF and too big
I bought this hat for myself, but I ended up giving it to my husband. I bought in the classic size as the size chart indicated it would fit. I am not a petite woman (5’8”; 160 lbs: normal sized head for my body. Lol). I had to tighten it so much it had a weird pucker in the back. Not what I was going for with an $80 hat! Also, the REI description says it offers UPF 50+ protection. However, there was no indication on the tags on the actual hat that there is any UPF rating. I’ve never seen any article of sun protective clothing that didn’t advertise the UPF on the tags. They only talk about its buoyancy, sweat wicking, and water shedding properties. Because of that, I doubt that it provides any UPF protection. If that’s a selling point for you, as it was for me, look elsewhere.
Very nice high performance hat
I bought this hat initially because I liked the low brand profile. I was surprised at the cost but after wearing it around Denver for the day I was extremely impressed with the way it absorbed and then disposed of my sweat. The only reason it isn’t five stars is it should cost $20 less.
Not as durable as I wanted
I really wanted to like this hat. I saw ads for it everywhere and felt the investment would be worth it. I needed a plain black hat for work. It's quite comfortable and I enjoy how it can handle sweat and moist environments. However, its durability is not great. The back adjustment strap started tearing at the seam within 5 days of me wearing it. I felt like I had to baby this hat and that it wouldn't last long in the environments I was putting it in. It's not for me so I returned it.
