This is my third set of Raceface Chester pedals and my first set in the large size. I bought these to run on my Fatbike while wearing snow boots. They fit perfect. I had a few instances when my feet slid on the stock pedals. I just put in 20 miles on these large Chesters and didn't slip once. They really keep your feet planted. I'm sure these will hold up just as well as the other ones I have. One set has around 5,000 miles on them and I have never had any issues.
I have bought at least 5 pairs of the older 2020 model Chester pedals. These pedals have great grip, smooth bearings, and can take a beating. For around town cruising or light trail riding I have not found a better pedal in the price to performance category.
The internal bearings of one of the pedals began ticking about 4000 miles / 13-months in. Could replace the bearings and save maybe $10. Unfortunately disposable at that price.
These pedals are just ok. They are on the smaller side and the large version came out after I bought my set. These are good for riding mellow terrain but some parts of their design make them a weak option for good grip on gnarlier rides. The pins aren't very tall and rusty quickly. It's nice they are a standard screw for easy replacement but stainless steel would have been a better choice. The side profile shows the center spindle bar of the pedal is proud of the rest of the platform. This prevents your foot from sinking into the pins. I realized how much bigger my foot was than these and broke down and bought some crank brothers stamps before my chesters needed to be replaced. What a difference. The larger stamps with taller pins and concave design feel almost like I'm using clipless. Measure the width of the shoes you use to ride before buying pedals and make sure these are big enough. Also never pay retail for these. They are on sale all the time and honestly there are much better pedals for this price.
Bigger platform and concave shape makes my riding experience better and more confident. They just feel better all the way around. My wife wears a size 7 and she opted to stay with the original Chester. The large is a great addition to their lineup for average make sizes like 9 and up
I have an older pair of these on my mountain bike that have lasted a few years. I bought these in large for my fat tire bike to wear with boots. They work just like the older ones do. I'm happy with the purchase and size of the large. Very grippy.
The pedals are great. Super big flat sticky surface. Go the blue color which give the bike a nice look. They work outstanding with Vans shoes since Vans have a waffle bottom sole which the pegs in the pedal nest into.
Love them. On all my bikes. Makes clipless riding easy
Works well with my Salsa Heyday.
