Bought these for an upcoming thru hike with Zero breaking in issues. I have a known foot issues, high arches but small feet that I need a wider toe box. I also have a pair of Salomon x ultra pioneer that I still like but not giving enough arch support for longer distances and multiple day. Well worth the $$$ as the one thing that will shorten my hiking day is foot pain. I also am careful where I spend extra money and shoes definitely where I become diligent.
I love these for scrambling. They're flexible yet supportive. The soles are very grippy. I never have any significant break in problems with my Zamberlans, but these in particular are very comfortable immediately. My feet don't get hot yet they stay dry in puddles. The toes are protective. Although they are not high on the ankle, and my ankles aren't strong, I haven't had any problems with the ankle support. A great summer hiker!
