Just ran 20+ miles in this vest. It stayed snug and secure the whole time with some minor adjustments during stops. The front chest zipper pocket and side pockets below my arms held my phone or other items well without any bouncing. The mouth nozzle on the hose can get pinched and leak a little if you’re not careful but there are some good options to secure it out of the way. I was running in 45-55° temps and did not feel overheated at all, though it might get a little cozy in warmer temps over 80°. My only note is that this vest runs a little bigger than others - I got a Medium and it fit well except I had to tighten the chest straps nearly all the way down, meaning extra cord that I had to tuck away.
To be fair I've only done one run with it, but so far it seems great! As I said if you have a 45" chest this is the only vest in REI I could put on. I have a very non typical "runners" body, but have been wanting a hydration very for hikes and running. I wish it was a little lighter and more breathable like the Salomon or Nathan but the xxl Salomon looked like Chris Farley with David Spades jacket on! "Fat man in a little coat!" Couldn't even put it on. To be fair I could wear the REI brand vest and was considering it but found the Osprey. The Osprey for better, more hugging. Had better pockets and more storage, so went with it, but the Osprey is more expensive! All in all it seems to be a great lil pack and after further testing I'll report back. Just wanted to leave a review for all the bigger runners to have an idea of what to look for. Because XL size in the running world is really more like a Child's Large size!
Have been trail running and riding mtb with a size Large (5’11” 210lb)for the last couple months and am very pleased with it, barely notice a jiggle and has tons of compartments. No loose stitches or any problems as of yet. I no longer get nipple chafe after using this vest. Game changer for me, not sure if it’s placebo but my performance increased after switching to this from a small back pack. Wish I did it sooner! One thing you should not do is use any type of fragrance on it. A family member sprayed febreeze on it after a run because it got stinky.. Not sure what caused it but the smell became intense and I have not yet been able to wash/sweat it out completely. I just rinse it in a bucket with some lukewarm water. I think it’s some sort of reaction with the material. Otherwise an excellent vest.
Ran my first half marathon using this vest. It was very comfortable, held plenty of water, and had enough places to stash fuel plus personal items.
Overall the vest is great, fits snuggly without any chaffing on long runs. Pockets are great for holding gels and small soft flasks. The bladder is nice but isn’t insulated. The back is vented but transfers too much body heat to the bladder. I fill the bladder half ice and half water and 6 miles in a long run it’s melted and the water is starting to get warm. By mile 10 it’s warm water. Had to purchase a separate insulated bladder that helped much better but that’s just added cost. Otherwise it’s actually comfortable, versatile and lightweight.
I got this pack for adventure racing/orienteering/rogaine races. My only issue is that the 6L size seems to be much smaller than 6L. Maybe they count the volume of all the small pockets towards the 6L volume, but once it is filled with water and a few small mandatory gear items there is no room for a jacket or extra layer. This hasnt been an issue thus far, but it leaves me feeling vulnerable to inclement weather should it occur on race day. Otherwise, it has been comfortable and the multitude of small pockets makes organizing items and keeping them accessable easy. However, some pockets become non functional (such as the pone pocket) when other pockets are filled (water bottle pocket) but I worked around this by also wearing a running belt to carry my phone and additional food.
I waited for some use before submitting a review. I have experience with Orange Mud vests and enjoy their build and smaller footprint but needed something with a little more capacity. I have a 36" chest, 5'9" and 150. I tried a medium but it was just a touch big. Felt it would bounce a bit too much when weighted not giving me the ability to tighten enough. Settled on the small and like the way it fits. The material is a little heavier than some brands, but it feels like an Osprey product, built to last. I have run multiple 10 milers, a 30, 40 and just recently finished a 100 mile trail ultra through consistent rain, 55 degree temps and non stop rain. I like to use both chest bottles and thebback bladder. Full with 2.5L of liquid, 4 gels, 4 Scratch powder packs, phone, headphones the pack does feel weighty, but not unbearable. The pack holds and distributes the weight very well. There is little to no bounce when adjusted properly. I wear a tank top underneath and had no rubbing issues. The fabric isnt the softest so would be cautious going sans shirt. At least apply some body glide. This is a 4.5 star pack. Only downsides are the minor scratchy fabric. Although this has softened a bit with wear. Otherwise the phone pocket behind the left chest bottle sleeve can irritate the chest when you have a full bottle and phone in the pocket. Pressure causes a minor bruising at the bottom of the phone. A small amount of padding there would solve the problem. Only having a phone and no bottle makes this area a non issue as well. But i do like the access to my phone when needed. I bought this for 30% off so took a shot. Was looking at the Salomon Adv Skin 12 but already had chest bottles and the price was a deal breaker. Overall happy with the purchase. Won my race too so thumbs up!
Super light ,and very comfortable. Have a month running with it now. I am very happy with this pack. A lot of storage for nutrition.
Wish I’d bought this sooner; it’s the perfect workout companion for long walks/hikes. It has pockets for everything I need to carry, my large iPhone fits in the left side zippered pocket, and 1.5 L is plenty of water. Also, it’s super comfortable and does not chafe. Can’t recommend this enough.
Great vest, fit me well with plenty of room under the arms. Easily adjustable on the fly and plenty of storage. Huge plus that it comes with a bladder, although I will be buying soft bottles for shorter runs.
