Comfy and water resistant

I've worn these shoes for about a week now, mostly through town walking the dogs, but on some trails too, probably 40 miles in total. They are a comfortable and well cushioned shoe, very easy to wear all day. I found the water resistance to be very good when walking through wet grass, water seems to bead up rather than soak in. Sizing seems to run a little small so if you're debating between two sizes, I would recommend going up a size. I have wide feet and after wearing them all day I felt a little pressure on my pinky toe, which is why I knocked off a star, overall Id say the shoe is an average width. The tread seems quite grippy, no issues while hiking on wet rocks and Ive worn them while riding my bike and they stuck to the pedals nicely. Overall I'm very happy with the shoes, it seems comfortable and capable for whatever you throw at it, and the sustainability of it is also really cool!

Great shoe, ready for pretty much any adventure

This is the first pair of Vans I've owned and I am very impressed. I generally stay away from shoes that appear to have a thicker heal so I initially wasn't sure if I would enjoy wearing these. However, they strike a perfect balance of comfort and support. I've hiked with these on some very technical double black diamond trails. They had adequate grip while crossing smooth rock as well as hiking up steep grade. I've also worn these on a couple of mountain biking trips. They grip pedals well and remained comfortable through very long rides. I also really appreciate that they look stylish and don't stick out if you wear them into town straight off of the trail. For me, these shoes have been a perfectly well rounded adventure ready shoe.

Versatile Shoe

I recently received the Vans MTE Crosspath shoes to review. I've been an avid hiker and trail runner for quite some time now, and I love testing out different trail shoes. I was able to spend a solid 2 weeks and 300,000 steps in these shoes. I took them on a few trail runs ranging from 3 miles to 14, in the city for a sightseeing tour, and on the beach. I received the black and white color wave, the design is very much classic Vans style except for the tread and toes. The upper is lightweight yet durable with a water repellent treatment. I accidentally side swiped a few rocks near the upper toes and side foot and the material still cleans up nicely with no holes (pics are after all the use and cleaning them up). I was able to run through and stand in water up to the tongue without my feet getting wet. However, if the water is deep enough to reach the tongue, you will be walking with wet feet and water in the shoe. They don't drain quite as well as other dedicated trail shoes, but it wasn't the worst thing to finish the run with water logged shoes. That being said, the breathability is also just ok, in my opinion it could be improved, but it is serviceable. The grip and tread is pretty great. The nicely sized lugs bite into pea gravel while the rubbery material gives you plenty of traction on wet rock or sidewalk. I would hesitate to walk on gym floors or other sensitive material as the rubber can mark up the floor. Walking in the city on concrete did seem to wear the tread faster, but not nearly as much as a dedicated trail shoe. The stability is definitely medium in this shoe, I have used trail runners that are both better and worse than these. The most unstable part is near the narrow part of the sole. It is in line with the rest of the tread and not recessed, so walking on rocks or uneven surfaces there can cause some un-stability. The cushioning is pretty great, especially on the downhill. For sizing, I received my normal size and it seemed to fit true. The toe box is pretty narrow however, and left my toes wanting more room. I tried to use the included insole, however had to switch to Superfeet after a week as my feet and knees seemed to suffer (I might just be used to Superfeet too much). Longer walks and runs also did not leave my feet feeling great because of the narrow toe box and perhaps just how my feet sit in this shoe. Overall this shoe offers a good range of use from going to the office during the day, to trails in the afternoon, this shoe can tackle most of it! Even though I have issues with the breathability, toe box, and long walk comfort, I will be keeping these around for shorter runs/walks and trips where I can only bring 1 pair of shoes.

Narrow, low grip, no ankle support, but comfy

This pair of hiking shoes are definitely comfy , but could totally use a wide size to be made. They aren't all too grippy compared to the 5.10s that I used to wear but they can be worn on most beginner-intermeediate hikes. I had the chance to use them for short hikes in the Adirondacks to the Albanian alps. They've held up, but I would want to find something with a bit more ankle support myself.

Perfect blend of streetstyle and outdoor readiness

I’ve been wearing the Vans MTE for a while now, and they’ve quickly become my favorite for just about any occasion. These aren’t just your typical Vans; they’re built for more than just walking around the city. Designed for unpredictable weather and varied terrain, they bring together style, functionality, and comfort in a way that few shoes do. I love the way they look <3 Comfort & Fit: They hug your feet in all the right places, thanks to a well-cushioned insole and a collar that gives the right amount of support without feeling bulky. The fit feels true to size, but with just enough extra room in the toe box so you don’t feel cramped. Whether I’m walking around the city or hitting a trail, I can wear these all day without discomfort. Weather-Ready Durability: The MTE Crosspath really stands out in how it handles tough conditions. The water-resistant upper works like a charm, keeping my feet dry during unexpected rain showers, and the rugged outsole delivers excellent grip on rocks, dirt, and uneven terrain. I’ve worn these on both paved paths and rocky trails, and they’ve performed great. The shoes feel durable. Looks & Versatility: What I really love about these shoes is how they blend Vans’ iconic look with a more functional, outdoorsy style. You get the classic Vans vibe but with a tougher, more adventurous edge. They’re perfect for those days when you want something that looks good but can still handle a bit of off-road action. They’re stylish enough to wear casually, but also rugged enough for weekend hikes or spontaneous outdoor adventures. Warm-Weather Performance: The only slight drawback is their breathability. Since they’re designed to keep out the elements, they can run a little bit warm in hot weather. They’re great in cooler temps, but I found that my feet felt a bit toasty during warm days. Still, for an all-weather shoe, this is a minor trade-off.

Great Looking, Well Performing Hikers

These are awesome hiking/trail runners that look great at the brewery after. Very comfortable, solid grip, extremely lightweight. Serious hiking shoe but with that added vans style. The sole was plenty grippy on rock and loose sand, very comfortable midsole that was supportive and had a perfect balance of cushion. Walking through a small creek bed, the DWR held up great and repelled water well, while still remaining breathable.

Just Like the Old Days - But Better!

Having been a Vans wearer in a younger and "trendier" life, I was a bit nervous about the look of these, but I have to admit, I have been SO pleasantly surprised - these shoes ROCK! I ended up wearing these shoes a lot more than I had initially anticipated I would want to. Not only do they look great with shorts and pants, they're actually insanely comfortable too. The slightly more "aggressive" and outdoorsy look blends in well with most of my day-to-day attire and allowed them to even show up at the office a few times. Over the last few weeks, I've worn them enough to allow ample break-in time (although none was really needed) and found that they are perfect for all day wear. Living in Montana, the transition from office to streetwear to trails is pretty frequent and these bad boys totally make the cut for most anything I could need on a casual day. I'm not sure I'd do much hiking in them, but they're great for casual outdoor rec such as walks, light trail use, frisbee golf, and bumming around town on my bike. A great casual shoe for the elder-Millennial looking to harken back to the old days with a modern twist, these are awesome! I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review.

Sturdier than expected

These shoes off the bat were pretty comfortable without having to break them in. The sole is a bit thick, so I felt noticeably more elevated than when wearing some of my other shoes. I liked how they slipped on and off easily without feeling insecure. Style-wise, they look sort of like “dad shoes” casually, but in the realm of hiking boots, they are pretty cool. They felt fairly durable when I was using them, I gave them a bit of a beating, but they cleaned up well without too much effort.

Good looking shoe

Nice shoe with good features. I really like them although I've only been using them for 2 days. The only fault I can see is they should make these shoes in a wider size. Not everyone's feet are thin and narrow.
