Narrow
I have never purchased a shoe more narrow than this Danner hiking shoe. I purchased the EE Wide just based purely on the reviews as people stated it ran narrow, and was shocked at how narrow the wide variant of the shoe was. See the attached insole photo. Honestly, who has a foot this narrow in a Mens 10.5?
What a Danner Disappointment
Super disappointed. I have worn Danner boots of various models for over 25 years due to consistent fit and feel. However, this hiking shoe from Danner deviates from their traditional fit with a really strange heel box design. This design makes getting your heel into the shoe a tight and difficult task, requiring excessive shoelace loosening (similar to a full height boot) while simultaneously being way to roomy with an unacceptable amount of heel movement even after everything is laced up tight. An impressive accomplishment for sure, but not going to work for my purposes.
VERY Narrow, Even In Wide Width
I am so bummed over these shoes. They're very well crafted and look like they'll last a long time. But as other reviewers have stated, this shoe is unbelievably narrow, even in a wide size. All my Danner's have been 8.5 W and GoreTex and fit great. The 2650 I can barely get my feet into the shoe and only if the laces are as loose as they can get. There's no way I could lace the. I don't think it's narrow just because of the GoreTex lining - I think something happened with the manufacturing of the shoe. I sent an email to Danner 11/25 - will update my review if I hear anything back from them.
Struggled to find a hiking shoe
I transitioned to Xero minimalist shoes last year, which has made 'normal' structured shoes uncomfortable. I have struggled to find a minimalist shoe for hiking that is truly waterproof - Xero's attempts fail, leaving my feet wet. After much looking around, I tried this pair on at an REI store and they were actually comfortable. They are closer to zero drop than other hikers and have enough room in the toe box to spread the toes. The soles are huge from what I'm used to, but that can be nice when hiking. After a break-in period, they seem to be working so far. I'll test them more soon.
Comfortable trails shoe
I normally hike in trail running shoes but needed a little more stability for an upcoming hike. This shoe is light and comfortable right out of the box. I typically wear a 9.5 D (Medium) in most running shoes but purchased a 10 EE after reading a few reviews which said the shoe runs a bit small. I have found the 10 EE to fit well.
Days long Comfort
Amazing low hiker. I do not hike but needed a comfortable, warm, rugged shoe with comfort and this shoe checked all the boxes. Highly recommended. I do about 3 reviews a year and this made the list.
Awesome, comfy shoe
Probably the best all around low top hiker I have owned. Super comfy and supportive. Love the suede, it stays crazy dry and clean. Love putting these on every day.
Perfect out-of-the-box. GTX = better fit
These are great shoes, and I own four pair. Danner makes two styles of this type of shoe: Gortex (2650 GTX) and the standard (2650s). I've found the standard models both narrow and with short shoe-laces, requiring an extended break-in period (and lace-replacement). The GTX models are perfect out-of-the box and great for hiking and nice enough for everyday wear too.
Great for disc golf
I got these on sale back in March. They are amazing disc golf shoes. I'd never pay full price but they are super nice. Waiting for next sale to get another pair
Very stable.
These are the most stable shoes I've ever bought. I have a great sense of being solidly connected to the ground. The quality is very high. The long lace provides a lot of options for adjusting the fit. The next time I'm buying shoes/boots I will take a good look at Danner again.
