After happily wearing multiple pairs of a French brand for the last 5 years, their sizing suddenly changed and they were uncomfortable. I tried an Italian brand and was disappointed as well. These Danners caught my eye ... despite these being a gold standard when I was a kid--my dad and brothers had multiple pairs, and Danner HQ was not far from where we lived--I'd never tried a pair. And when I put these on ... wow! I wear these daily where I live now in the Mountain West and continue to be extremely impressed with comfort, build quality, and wear. They work for a hike in the foothills and I can wear them out in the evening as well.
Just returned from a 10 day European adventure and these were my only shoes for the trip. Bought them a week before we left. Over the 10 days walked 150k steps in urban environments and the boots were flawless. Had a couple of significant rain days and feet stayed bone dry. I liked the stiff soles but there is some give. The stiff soles were great on the cobbles. Lots of traction on wet pavement and stone. If they fit, these things are great travel shoes. Most days we weren’t loaded down, but on transit legs with a travel bag pack on felt very stable with the extra weight. Look forward to getting them on the trails. FYI, I pulled the useless inserts and used something better suited for my feet.
12 hikes on the Panorama 6 inch so far and I find them to be very stable and comfortable. They seem to be true to size and the staff at REI showed me a lacing technique that helps keep my heel in place. Result: my big toe is not jamming. The sole seems to have more grip than Oboz or Keen which is a big plus. All that said you still need to have a good fit for happy feet. If you are able to get what seems to be a good fit than I recommend you try this Danner. REI has an awesome return policy that I hope people don't abuse but that return policy is particularly outstanding when buying boots.
I have owned more Merrell boots than any others but I've dabbled with other brands. We found these Danners on sale at REI and I was so impressed with how they felt in the store. Six months later, these have proven to be the most comfortable, most water resistant, and also grippiest boots I've used. I want to get another pair soon -- I'm very satisfied with them. I normally wear a 13 and prefer a wider shoe -- although I don't wear a wide-size shoe. I'm about 250 pounds and do regular day hiking on Pennsylvania's AT which is rocky and muddy. Great boots!
My husband has very particular requirements for wearing shoes and boots. They have to have excellent arch support, easy to put on, versatile for leisure and work activities, fashion forward, quality made, and most of all, comfortable. It appears that this Danner boots has what both of us are looking for. I am curious to see if it passes the waterproof test that our part of the Pacific northwest snow ice, rain weather has in store. He decided to get a half size larger than he normally wears in this brand. I am immensely pleased that it happened to also be on sale.
Soles are cushioned yet firm for rocks and gravel. Firm soles combat fatigue on my feet better than cushiony Hok* like soft soles. I trek up to 20 miles a few times a year and at least 5 miles 3 times per week. These will last a few years. I get quite a lot of compliments on this stylish masculine looking boot. Bought the shoe style also. As a member since 2010, I’m sort of thrilled there is at least a shoe that fits me that REI includes in their purchase order from manufacturers. REI could include Wide Extra-Wide and Narrow in almost all of their selections, but no. Since 2010 this is the only wide fit that actually fit and actually purchased without a return.
I run a small farm and these are my go to's on the daily. Super comfortable, tough, durable, waterproof and mud proof. They look great, too. I'm able to do my work without having to think about the terrain or weather conditions. They're breaking in rather nicely in a short amount of time, and I expect to wear them for years.

A very nice light mid height boot. There was a lot to like about the construction. Unfortunately, I returned them because the toe box was too tight and my foot rebelled after wearing them in the house for 6-8 hours. size 13 D (no wide available in stock)
Super comfortable so far. I am a mobile mechanic so I needed something stable and water resistant. So far they have been great!
