Lightweight and reliable

I bought these before a trip to New Zealand because I did not want to pack my over-the-ankle boots. They worked perfectly over my La Sportiva shoes in wet and dry conditions and survived two weeks of hiking. Wet conditions comprised of two straight days in alpine / rainy conditions where my pants wetted out, but my ankles and feet stayed dry. No debris entered my shoes during dry hikes. I didn’t put them on for one hike and immediately had light gravel stabbing my feet, and within a minute I had the gaiters zipped up and protecting me.

Mud is stronger than Kahtoola
Unhappy with this product's performance on the very wet and muddy conditions of the West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island. The center cable (under the foot arch) broke on one of the shoes on day two of our hike. In addition, the zippers failed to operate when covered with dirt, mud, and sand.

Functional outside of winter conditions
Yes , I recommend this product
Functionally these work well and stay fastened at the bottom - the only caveats to consider are if you're not wearing boots, or tall enough socks, they'll likely slip down at the top a little over time, and I also don't think they perform as well in icy/snowy conditions. However many fabrics succumb to ice/snow unless they're thick enough, so it's understandable. I'd be careful with the zipper, this is my second time buying them because one of the interlocking metal pieces of the zipper became displaced after pulling the zipper too diagonally (you want to keep the zipping motion as vertical as possible). Function aside, I really enjoy the color of these aesthetically, so they win some bonus points for that.

I used these for both work and hiking, and can’t recommend enough. I work 5 days a week landscaping on desert terrain, and hike on my weekends on tough off-trail routes. These babies lasted for about 10 months of constant wear before finally kicking the bucket, I got more than my money’s worth out of them. I’m about to order a new pair, love em.✅
