I took my Merrell s to the snow on my first venture. W/ my feet fully in trenched in snow throughout the trip I felt not a single drop after 8 miles of hiking. No aches or pain in my feet
Mine made it a little past 2 years and 100 miles before the waterproof membrane in one boot failed. It's a shame, I absolutely loved them.
I was hesitant, at first, just by looking the construction of the boots, that they would be able to withstand snow and water. Well, looks are deceiving my friends, because these boots stood up to snow, mud, ice and a slushy mixture of all three. I am so impressed and glad I bought them. Also, for the record, I am a woman and found the men’s sizes to be roomier, especially when adding thick socks to the mix in cold climates. If you were on the fence like me about the purchase-just do it. They also are extremely comfortable and really don’t need to be broken in at all. There you go-now you have no excuses to not buy them!
I bought these specificly for a Mountain Trek. The whole trek was around 115 miles summiting 4 Mountains, and they where comfortable. After I got back the fabric had ripped where the bottom lase connected. I keep wearing the walking 3 miles about everyday. The threading is coming undone. I've owned them for less than 5 months.
After wearing these boots for ~1 month the foam next to the laces has torn a hole, the fabric on the tongue of the shoe has also partially peeled off and the top of the tongue the fabric has started to degrade. The waterproofing works though and they have great grip on the trail which I am a fan of. Overall the boot is nice but the quality is horrific, I would not buy these boots again because I do not trust the foam not to rip
I haven’t owned more comfortable hiking shoes as these. They are my absolute favorite pair and they look amazing. I get at least one compliment every time I wear them.
I bought these in June 2023 and have about 750 miles on them. Weight 180, 6’ tall. For me, great fit and comfortable like all Merrill shoes. Nice light weight summer shoe. Downside - the tread is about half gone. The sole is detached from the upper fabric of the shoe. They leak now. The shoe shows dirt and is hard to keep clean. While hiking rocky terrain small rocks can be felt now through the sole. They do not hold up like the Moab. I typically get 1200-1500 miles, 5-8 months from Moab 3 and replace them when the tread is worn smooth and leak.
These boots have lasted me around 9 months of daily wear as a utility lineman, with many weekend hiking trips. Overall they are very comfortable and look good. I don’t know if they claim to be waterproof but they aren’t at all. Which is good for me, as they control temperature much better. They will however soak your feet for the day if you walk through wet grass. With these, you will get much less life than you would out of a classic Moab 3, however these are very lightweight and have virtually zero break-in period. I do recommend upsizing a half size.
These are as described. At first they were a little snug wearing a wool sock, but stretched a little after a wear for a good fit. If they had half sizes in the larger sizes, I probably would go a half size larger. I have used these on 3-4 mile dog walks in cold wind and snow, and my feet are dry and warm. Pretty good arch support, could use a little bit more support. This is my second pair. I used the previous pair for the same walks as well as outdoor summer yard work weed eating in some water and my feet never got wet! Probably designed for warmer weather, but so far my feet do not get cold at all wearing a merino wool sock. Bought them on a good sale, so great value!
These shoes are SO comfortable. I liked them at first for their comfort, but I noticed issues with the soles soon into my forst hike. Unfortunately, the shoe soles did not hold up. They started peeling apart from the shoe after one hike (hiking the Presidential Range in NH), and the tread on the bottom also deteriorated and made the shoe slippery even on dry rock. It has all the makings for a great shoe, but the sole needs lots of work for more serious hikers.
