Great in the backcountry.

Broke in this pack on a 3 day trip through Escalante - Grand Staircase. Worked like a champ. Compartments offer enough space to carry 7 ltrs of H20 and all my gear. Hip support was excellent and frame allowed great airflow between my back and pack. Plus the price was another big incentive when shopping other similar backpacks. Highly recommend.

Beefier padding than Crown 60 , Tons of space.

I bought this pack because the pads are much beefier than the Granite Gear Crown 60, which did great on my Spain Camino 2024 But! lack of padding became an issue after a few weeks. This new pack is what I will be using on Camino#2 The Norte in Sept. 2025. I have done a few hikes with 15lbs or so and i can barely feel it. Wish the Top/Lid/Brain came off but no a deal killer.

Don't buy this pack! Parts are NOT replaceable!

I bought this pack in fall of 2024 for my 17 year old. He has used it a handful of times. He really likes it, EXCEPT the sternum strap has gone missing. Its a weird sternum strap that attaches by "channels" on the shoulder pads. REI doesn't sell replacements, and the only suppliers that they can put you in touch with either don't have the product, or have something that *looks* like the right product but doesn't actually fit. How REI can NOT have access to spare parts for their own branded equipment is mystifying to me. The online REI tech support barely even tried to help. No suggestion other than that I should look online for it myself, or that a "local" REI store (none closer than an hour to me) *might* be able to help me out.

Great Quality, but Missing Some Features

I'm in the market for my first real backpack for hiking, and was lucky enough to snag this pack for $107 on sale after seeing it in-store. As soon as I got it home, I loaded it up with my Trailmade 20 sleeping bag and about 20lbs of gear to test the fit and feel. There are plenty of great features about this bag. First off, this is a very handsome looking pack. I love the colors and overall look of the pack. It is highly adjustable, offers great airflow around your back, and the straps and hip belt are well-cushioned and very comfortable. It's very easy to adjust the shoulder straps/torso length - such a great design. I also appreciate the generous size of the pouches on the hip belt, and I can easily fit my phone with some space left over. I appreciate that there are keepers for all of the straps so that the excess lengths of strap aren't just flapping around everywhere. The nylon material of the bag's shell feels a little thinner than I expected, but it doesn't feel cheap. The buckles and zippers all feel solid and high-quality. Stitching is heavy duty. I have no doubt that this bag would last a long time. The sleeping bag compartment at the bottom of the pack is pretty tight when using a Trailmade 20 sleeping bag, but it does fit with some effort. The main compartment is very large. There's a separate area for a water reservoir, and an opening in the rear center of the bag to run the tube out to either strap. There's a zippered compartment on top of the lid, and another large pouch on the outside of the pack. I love the placement of the two water bottle pouches - it's so easy to reach my water bottles and put them back without needing to take the pack off. A couple of things that I did not like about this bag, and the reason for the three stars, are: First, there is no rain cover included, and there isn't even a dedicated pocket to keep one. At this price point, that's honestly unacceptable. There are $35 bags on Amazon that include rain covers with dedicated pockets at the very bottom of the bag. It's crazy to me that a bag retailing for almost $200 does not come with a rain cover. I also really dislike the two straps located on the sides of this bag. The instructions don't mention their intended use, but based on how they look, I think they're meant to simply compress the pack and keep everything nice and tight. Unfortunately, this means there is no good way to attach things to the side of the pack, such as trekking poles or a tripod. There are no side pockets/pouches, and these little straps do not feel durable enough to hold anything in place on their own. I certainly wouldn't want to hang anything from them. I soooo wish that this bag had normal mesh pockets on either side (in addition to the water bottle pouches that are already there) along with normal straps and buckles to make it easy to store or carry things on the sides of the pack. Finally, the bag on its own is a little bit heavy, clocking in around 3.5lbs. That's due to the internal frame, which are two aluminum (I think?) bars running up either side of the back, as well as the generous padding. The weight isn't the end of the world - totally manageable thanks to the padding - but would've been great if this was a little bit lighter given the price. Overall, if you don't care about the lack of side storage or rain cover, then this is a great bag. It's very comfortable, durable, and adjustable. I would not pay full price for it, personally.
